Omen + Essence Crafting Proposal
Hello GGG, Proposed Change Allow players to combine Omens with Essences (e.g., Resistance-themed, Attack-themed, Spell-themed, Attribute-themed, and Defense-themed) to nudge or encourage certain modifier themes when crafting items. For example, combining a Resistance-themed Essence with an Omen would give the item a Resistance-based modifier. Similarly, Attack- or Spell-themed Essences could be used to skew outcomes toward respective offensive modifiers, while others would target Attributes or Defensive mods. Why This Change? Bolster Underutilized Items • Essences often flood the market at lower tiers, becoming undervalued. • Omens remain an interesting but niche crafting mechanic. • Merging the two systems would give both items more consistent demand and strategic value. Rewarding Mid-Tier Crafting • Adding a layer of determinism with Essence + Omen crafting offers more enticing options for players upgrading their gear. • Creates an intermediary system between fully random outcomes and high-end deterministic crafting methods. Increases Player Agency • Players can now choose which Essences to combine with their Omens, allowing more control over the outcome and a sense of progression in crafting. • Keeps the crafting experience fresh—still RNG, but with targeted aims. Enhances Existing Mechanics • Encourages players to farm or trade for specific Essences, broadening the scope of existing content. • Integrates two existing systems (Essences & Omens) into a cohesive new crafting approach instead of introducing an entirely separate mechanic. Implementation Ideas Simple Combination System • Right-click an Essence, then click on an Omen to “infuse” it with that Essence. • The Omen is now “Essence-Infused” and, when used in a crafting recipe, provides a weighted chance for relevant mods. Tiered Influence • Higher tiers of Essences offer stronger weighting toward their respective modifiers. • Lower-tier Essences provide a smaller boost, preserving progression between Essence tiers. Visual Cues and UI • “Essence-Infused Omens” could have unique colors or icons to set them apart. • Tooltip text might read: “Infused with a [Theme]-Essence for increased chance of [Theme] modifiers.” Balance Considerations • Weighted outcomes should not overshadow random chance entirely—luck remains a critical factor. • Essence-infusing an Omen could require additional currency to preserve overall game balance. Anticipated Benefits Higher Value for Omens • Currently overlooked, Omens become strategic tools. Essence Usage Rises • Low- and mid-tier Essences gain renewed utility and demand. Crafting Diversity • Players can approach gear improvement in multiple creative, targeted ways beyond purely random re-rolls. Market Evolution • Increased trade volume and price stability for Omens and Essences alike. Conclusion Empowering Omens with Essences to guide broad modifier categories (Resistance, Attack, Spell, Attribute, Defense) would invigorate two underused resources simultaneously. This system strikes a balance between the excitement of random drops and the satisfaction of targeted crafting, enhancing both player agency and the in-game economy. I have noticed that the omen's used to add modifiers don't need to be used. Every item can only have 6 modifiers and it is split 3/3 between prefixes and suffixes. So an omen like Sinistral Exaltation seems good but, in fact, never needs to be used. Just slamming Exalts into an item produces the same result. Has anyone else noticed this?

I totally agree with this.
I had this same idea. Essence-Infused Omen of Whittling/Annulment to target specific modifiers. |
