1 Life Citadel (and Maps) has been a Horrendous failure of design choice.
It is hands down, one of the worst design choices I have seen for the game.
There are SOOOO many amazing things about this game, and I can't praise it enough. However, this is such a terrible and flawed decision for end game mapping. It absolutely needs to change. I'm absolutely not interested in having my hand forced by you devs to play a psuedo-Hardcore experience otherwise I would have quite literally just played hardcore. ESPECIALLY in a clearly flawed and unfinished mapping design environment. Give us the 6 portals, reset the boss health on death I dont really give a F***. Yea, the current design feels like an arbitrarily enforced 'mediumcore'. Making death this punishing also further disincentivizes players away from experimentation/trying unorthodox builds, and just encourages meta-play.

The 1 death on map is really bad i agree BUT whats even worse design is that on a failed "map node" or whatever we sould call them you loose the "bonus" possible content like breach.delirium,irradated+1 lvl OR in citadel case you cannot reenter citadel and fight the boss again. Today i just found my 2nd ever citadel after 200+ hours of play with 300+ maps completed , i had to travel 90 nodes to find this 2nd citadel and i managed to fail it due to a nice combination of mods -temp chains+turbo+ ofc temporal bubble on boss 2nd phase :) The atlas design is really really bad. With PoE1's atlas/mapping/completion being reworked 100s of times and was never recieved with such negativity as this atlas design. I do hope that they dont stick with this type of design.

Don't worry I gave up on my Stormweaver Ice Strike at level 92.
It is not possible in a fully juiced map with breach, deli fog, ice strike, charged lightning, bell, herald procs and the other visual vomit to see the mini explosions. (Remember that Jonathan said they will tune down DD from enemies, what a joker). If there would be clear indicators to see rares and explosions I could probably deal with the one portal maps. But in this state right now I rather can't wait for the new PoE league, they need to cook a lot on this early access. On death explosions are the cheapest death, especially when they ignore all your defensive layers. That's just lazy coding tbh |
