Ghostwrithe and The Everlasting Gaze

I dont want to spoil anyone's fun, but I dont think these items are working as intended. Jumping back over to PoE 1 to see how the chest works with eldritch battery which will swap ES to your mana bar. Similar to how Eldritch battery works in PoE 2, except it turns ALL es into mana instead of just applying it to your mana bar as ES.

I think the keyword here, is ALL. if you still have ES after taking eldritch battery then I dont think the keystone is working as intended.

Lets break this down a little bit more with pictures.

PoE 2

This is how these two items function & read in PoE 2

Now for the fun part

Without eldritch battery, these calculations make sense somewhat, probably not fully but getting a ton of ES over your 1/1 HP with chaos inoculation is good.

The problem comes from when you enable eldritch battery, it doesn't convert ALL of your ES into mana. It leaves a large portion on your health bar.

Note: The above image is just with the chest on, not the necklace.

Here is what it looks like with both neck and chest equiped

Alright alright, I can hear people screaming at me now "this is awesome it enables builds" and "dont compare it to poe 1"

Sure its awesome that it works this way currently, but it cant be intended. if it is GGG should chime in and let us know its intended this way.

Lets jump over to PoE 1 really fast anyways regardless of the above statement.

Here is that same chest, in PoE 1

This is basically an identical chest in every shape and form.

Here is before equipping the chest piece.

Now, Lets equip the same chest, and show both with and without eldritch battery.

Before Eldritch Battery:

Nice, it does a similar thing and gives us a buncha extra ES

Lets now turn on eldritch battery.

This is what you would expect to happen in PoE 2 if the term ALL is working as intended. All means everything. I dont really think the verbiage can be made any more clear.

TLDR: Basically ES conversion is happening in a weird way that doesn't seem to be inline with how eldritch battery's keystone reads in PoE 2.

The Calculation seems to be something along the lines of Eldritch Battery conversion to mana ----> Max Life to ES ----> Max Mana to ES or something along these lines.

bump
Eldritch battery only takes the flat es not % es thats why its not working like poe1 and it doesnt put the es on top of the mana, it makes the es into mana through flat es. Thats why adding % es on top give you es, since eldritch battery cannot convert % es.

Convert doesnt take "ALL" of the es, only the flat

This is because "conversions" and "gain as extra" now happens in a single calculation in PoE2 and no longer in a chain like it used to in PoE1.

Eldritch Battery will convert your [base ES] into [added Mana]
Ghostwrithe will convert a percentage of your [base HP] into [added ES]
Everlasting Gaze will give you a percentage of your [base Mana] as [added ES]

These three calculations will happen at the same time so Eldritch Battery can only convert your [base ES] and not the [added ES]. The remaining [added ES] could then be scaled by increases and reductions to ES normally.
Not a bug. If you view the Eldritch Battery node in the passive skill tree and hover over the word "convert" it clearly states that the conversion only applies to your base ES. It means that it converts ALL of your base ES. That doesn't stop items from converting life to energy shield after the fact, which is what happens in this case.

So order of operations as intended is:

1. Base ES is converted to mana by Eldritch Battery
2. Ghostwrithe or Atziri's Disdain convert life to ES
3. Everlasting Gaze adds ES based on base mana
4. Percentage increases from skill nodes are then applied to both ES and mana

These are intended interactions which many people have mistakenly interpreted as a bug because they haven't read the "convert" tooltip on the Eldritch Battery node.
