Is it possible to enjoy PoE 2 without relying on 1 billion damage builds?

Hi, I got an email from GGG inviting me for a free PoE 2 Access, and I am downloading it now. One major thing I enjoyed doing was creating my own builds in PoE 1. My highest Damage character was 1 Mil and I had some success with main bosses, but I couldn't get passed Uber Bosses and I meta build for it.

My question is; can I play the game and at least have a chance to do Uber bosses without looking out for build guides?
