Steamdeck 1.5Gig POE2 unskippable update EVERY time I start or end a game.
Every time I start POE2, I get a lengthy "Verifying" followed by a 1.5G update. Anyone else? And frequently immediately after quitting too. I'm waiting for one right now.
It's annoying, and they can't be patching that much... and they can't be f'ing with shader caching so much, can they? Any way to stop it? I tried turning off updates, etc. Obviously, I can't go offline. Runs fine once it finally starts, but I figure I've been forced to DL an extra 100Gig for nothing... over a fairly slow, but otherwise adequate connection. I feel sorry for anyone on a data cap! Yeah have the same thing happening on desktop Linux too. For the shader caching you can just skip that. Haven't noticed any issues when doing so and saves a few minutes.

I've also got this issue. Close the game. downloads 1.8gig. open steam, downloads 1.8gig. I don't have a metered connection anymore, but used to back in the days and it's triggering a sort of ptsd lol. I don't like getting downloads that I don't know the whats and the whys either.
Running the game through steam on Linux mint 22. |

I also get this on my steam deck. It seems like the size has gone up over time though. Now I’m getting a 2.2GB shader pre-caching update every time I open the game currently on 0.1.0F. I can pause it and play and it seems to have no effect just annoying as sometimes I will forget and wonder why the server seems to be lagging so bad (deployed military playing on not the greatest connection)

In desktop mode, go to Steam - settings - downloads, and slide "enable shader pre-caching" to off.
The precaching has completely spiraled out of control for this game, but luckily you don't really need it. |
