Skill gem system feedback
I love the new skill gem system, leveling them up with item drops rather than XP feels really good, the tension on which gems to level up is really cool.
that being said, there are a lot of gems that are better at lower levels since their mana cost scales so sharply and the damage doesn't make it worth it. this leads you to wanting low level gems, however low level gems don't drop in high tier areas, it would make sense to be able to engrave lower level skills from high tier gems. another point on a similar topic, I agree with some higher tier skills being locked behind higher tier gems, but being able to engrave them at a lower level can make leveling a new character more exciting, right now playing a skill you desperately hate for 41-58 levels to get to a point where you can play what you wanted to play in the first place on a second character feels really bad. something I enjoyed about poe1 campaign was your second playthrough you had access to your final gem setup much earlier in the characters progression. I like the balance of getting the much more powerful skills later in the campaign on the first playthrough, but being more powerful on your second go around adds some variety, because right now there is a very very limited variety of skills in the early game and since you don't have many weapon set passives in act 1-2 your kinda stuck to 1 skill weapon type at a time. playing SRS or boneshatter for the 10th time every time you level another character gets old pretty quickly. support gems currently work like this and it feels really good, your second character has so many options it adds fun and reward for going again but being stuck with the same 5 active skills early gets old fast.
