Mektul, the Forgemaster - Lava damage bugged 50% of the time, even within the same fight

I tested this for over half an hour, after losing my hardcore charater to the lava.

Sometimes, the lava slowly ticks my health down (like it is supposed to be i assume). I can live in the lava for maybe 4-5 seconds. (obv with max resists)
Sometimes, the lava 1-shots: Just 1 fraction of a second inside the lava depletes my characters life. like... 3-4 frames.

At first i assumed, the lava only 1-shots when it is moving - this is wrong.
I also assumed, when mektul resides inside the lava, i can also be inside - this theory is also wrong.
It seems to be random, even within the same fight. Sometimes i can enter the lava and the damage is managable for 4-5 seconds, and sometimes it instantly kills my character, as if i had -100% resistances.

Just to underline, my character is VERY tanky.
At the point the lava 1-shot me, i could without dying afk-facetank all the mobs that are deemed overtuned by the community, even the ape, or blackjaw. (I tested this after the rip on sc)

Dying for touching the lava for a fraction of a second needs a fix. As i said above. i tested this for half an hour. Sometimes the damage is very managable, and the other half times, it is not just 5x, not 10x, but 50x as high as it should be.


Just a quick edit: I even had an Omen of Resurgence, that did not proc. So the death might have even been within 1 frame(?)

as far as i can tell this is something to do with the damage scaling depending on how deep you are. proly to make sure that it kills you for sure if you dont kill the boss fast enough
no, wrong.
sometimes it insta-kills at the very beginning of the fight, when just 1-2 meters of lava have appeared, when just touching it.

sometimes it insta-kills when you enter (walk "through the flow of the lava"), sometimes not.
edit: Dodge-rolling through the "flow" into the lava also does not seem to have an effect. after the dodge roll, sometimes you are just dead, sometimes not.

sometimes you can just walk around in the lava for a couple seconds, sometimes not and you are instantly dead as soon as you blink in/enter. both of those things (can) happen at every stage of the fight, no matter how far the lava has progressed.

Hi, also ran into this today.
It seems like lava "close" to the spout is extremely overtuned - even with a very tanky character (75% fire res, see below), you will die in less than a second.

Here's two videos that reproduce the issue:

This does not seem intended or very clearly communicated (as in the lava being "hotter" and hence dealing more damage) at the moment. I can see the intent in having lava damage scale with distance from the spout, but maybe the damage at a specific height in the channel should scale based with how long the lava has been flowing there instead of being hardcoded?

Thank you for providing those videos, this was exactly the experience that made me write the initial post.

My testing just also showed that it does not matter how far the lava has progressed from the initial point, oneshots can happen at any point, even later on. So i do not think there is some "cooling down" effect.

I simply could not figure out what the deciding factor is that sometimes lets you walk in the lava and survive a couple seconds, or not.

But i think there is no debating that the 1-shot instances are a bug.
Just lost hardcore character to this. Tested afterwards, no indication of when i can survive the lava besides sometime after the start of the fight. Sometimes its like 4000 dps, sometimes the usual ailment that stacks. Even ran all the way to the spout on the latter occasions.

This was in a tier 12 map with no damage mod for info.

I died in 2 frames. first frame I lost 2812 hp.
2812 x 60 (frames in a second) x 4 (75% fire res) = 674k damage/s.
I only had 71% fire res so it's actually higher than that. That's definitely bugged.

I tested it in act 3 and it works fine, it starts doing barely any damage and scale up the longer you stay in the lava.
Hi, I was having a look after ds_lily's rip in hardcore. Some points of interest:

1. In Normal act 3, my 75% res capped character can stand in the lava as soon as it starts flowing.

2. In Cruel act 3, same character gets killed in 1 second or less. We can assume that the forge map in endgame uses the same or very similar boss instance.

3. After ~40 seconds the DoT effect is normal and you can stand in it.

I'm not sure why it's like that. My 'guess' is that on Cruel+, the lava DoT silently starts at 1000 stacks or something crazy before silently 'resetting' to zero.
Died on hc just now. 20k es, 75% fire res, died in a second. Wow, just wow
