Character stuck in Act 3 "Legacy of the VAAL"

I grabbed the Large Soul core from the boss inside Jiquani's sanctum. I went to do a Chaos trial really quick and thought i could put the quest item away in my stash, the stashes in these areas doesnt work correctly with controller and when you "store" you really just drop the items. I "dropped" my quest item but it did not drop and vanished. I could not find it in any of the maps, and i went and fought the boss again, it did not drop another. My character plays the animation for the stone altar but it will not work and the gem i "place" in the altar does not appear and the quest will not continue.
