Fixing Crash to desktop on Intle CPUs
I got the game couple days ago and was not able to play at all game would crash on main menu 99% of the time, when i am lucky enough it lasts up to character creation and then crash.
i have tried every fix i found online and nothing helped. updating my graphic card, SFC /Scannow, update BIOS, put BIOS on default settings, play game on DX11/12/Vulkan, change game settings low/ultra, windowed/full screen/ borderless, change game install file to another hard drive, check file integrity, tried the stand alone launcher from your website, turn off steam overlay, i went as far as formatting the PC. i tried to contact the Support using the official website and am still with no answer from them till the time of writing this post. nothing worked. so i refunded the game. i did buy it one more time and then one of my friends reminded of the issue with Intel CPUs and that i might need to under-clock and it worked game works perfectly. so here is how i did it. 1- of all you need to download: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/17881/intel-extreme-tuning-utility-intel-xtu.html 2- after installing restart your computer and enter BIOS 3- make sure you have the option Undervolt Protection enabled and then save your changes 4- open Intel(R) Extreme Tuning Utility now you could undervolt your CPU but i decided to lower the Performance Core Ratio from 55x to 52x and things worked for me. you could always use a Benchmark (like Prime 95) to test your CPU and see if it overheats, prior to me lowering the Cores Benchmark would crash if i push the CPU a bit. this problem only started after updating my Motherboard to the latest Ver. i am using Prime Z790-A Wifi with I9 13900KF. i do hope this helps someone with the frequent crashes in this game. i do like to note that i did not notice lower performance when lowering the cores but you can test and see how many cores you need to lower for this problem to be fixed. (lowering the cores can always be reverted using the same program) do also note that i did not have this problem prior to Path of Exile 2 so it's worth a shot. lastly if you are planning on over/under Volting please make your own research before doing so.
