How Evasion works on POE 2?

I managed to finish my build and I finally reached the status that I was aiming for, but even with this absurdly high status, it's still not difficult for me to take hits IN A ROW (I'm not talking about spells) when I'm surrounded, so I took the liberty of doing some calculations.

If I have a 94% chance of evading a hit, then Mobs have a 6% chance of hitting me, but as the calculations show, there's something wrong with the game.

One hit with 94% evasion: 6% probability

Two hits in a row with 94% evasion: 0.36% probability

Three hits in a row with 94% evasion: 0.0216% probability

Four hits in a row with 94% evasion: 0.001296% probability

Five hits in a row with 94% evasion: 0.00007776% probability

So... Does anyone care to explain to me why I'm taking hits in a row?

Fun fact: Dying due to meteor impact - 0.0000625%

and again...

Looks like I survived 2 meteors in 30 minutes, thanks ggg.

BTW with the economy collapsed and this fucked up status I think its better to give the game a pause and let the devs fix it.

And with this 'bug' I decided to take providence and I did what I should do.

I'll put it positive again when they fix the game, until then I do not recommend play/support it.

Go back to POE 1 or play something else.
Oh no!

Anyway
I'm not sure how you're testing evade exactly, but evade in PoE 2 is not quite like in PoE 1.

1.) It applies to spells too
2.) It does not apply to attacks or spells that come from above/below (like slams); just ones that come relatively straight towards you.

I wasn't clear on what you meant by "meteor" (were you testing against some monster with a meteor attack?) but I suspect that the attack you were testing against is not evadable.
evasion works only against strikes and projectiles. slams you have to manually avoid they WILL hit you unless you are specced into accrobatics.

+1. Will also add a "Git gud" just because.
If you want your evasion applied to everything you need to skill into Acrobatics.

enemy skills are divided into things like AoEs, slams, projectiles, strikes, DoTs etc. If you hover over the evasion section of your character sheet it says evasion only normally protects against projectiles and strikes.

With Acrobatics it defends against (almost) anything except damage over time. This can be pretty powerful so presumably GGG was very careful about it and slapped a massive penalty.
Spacebar is your friend.
Go read up how evasion actually works, most of your assumptions are wrong

Evasion isn't calculated as a dice roll like most new players are assuming - the random dice roll to avoid taking damage is Block chance

Evasion is a weighted roll, and works off an "entropy" system for specifically HITS, meaning melee attacks, ranged attacks, and TARGETED spells

Evasion TL;DR: evasion isn't a random dice roll, it means that if you stand in front of something attacking you, it WILL EVENTUALLY hit you, guaranteed, but only so many attacks. 90% evasion, 1/10 attacks hits, give or take, depending on the monster. Not always accurate but a good rule of thumb.

That's why evasion cap is 95% and not 75% like block chance - 95% to avoid taking damage always is op AF and why lucky block was abused so hard in poe1 (rolling a block twice and taking the best result = ~92% chance to block which is insane)

This is why as an evasion character, the worst thing you can do is sit in a big group of mobs - taking 50 hits per second, you're GOING to be taking damage back to back to back as some of them break through the evasion entropy
you think they all only have a 5% chance to hit you, but in reality you're getting shredded

And like others said, evasion doesn't do anything at all for pretty much any AoE, no slams, no meteors etc. The best case scenario for you as an evasion character is to stay away from the AoE, go figure

As an energy shield/evasion mercenary using ghost shroud with ~20k evasion I've got a 90% evade chance and a floating pool of ~800 energy shield which Is never empty, literally the only time I die is to phys damage slams

Seems pretty balanced to me
