Game makes system run hot
Game plays almost flawless for me on High settings, but it makes my PC run HOT. I'm not capping CPU or GPU resources from what I can see, but I can hear my case fans spin up and temps get kinda warm.
Which settings affect this the most? I can do a bunch of trial and error but I thought I'd ask here before that so I don't waste time. I'm limiting my fps to 120. No discernable difference between DX12 and Vulkan. Last bumped on Dec 18, 2024, 7:37:04 PM

Do you have an X3D CPU? I recently got a 9800X3D and it tends to have enormous heat spikes when loading assets in any game, and in PoE that means every new map or return to town/hideout I'm spiking my CPU to 90C+ and my fans spin up to 1500 RPM. The TJMax on these CPUs is also much higher, though, so they are engineered to do that as disconcerting as it seems. I've never seen it thermal throttle the clock speed in spite of these spikes and after it finishes loading it sits at a much more stable temperature.

Those are GPU spikes due to lacking optimisation. Game is melting GPUs. Wattage regularly spikes from 100 to 290 (!!!!!!) on my 4080 when I fire explosive grenades and gas grenades - high settings, dlss balanced. I won't even bother launching it on my Steam Deck at the moment.
