What is the point of Altered Flesh?

I dont get it. At all. Why would i want to take MORE chaos damage? How does it help me to take fire damage ? caps are 75, doesnt change what element you get hit with. Is there some secret unique that makes this good? To me it looks like actually making my character WORSE than better.

What about a combination with Chaos Inoculation? Sound pretty good, no?
(I didn't try it)
The point is that with even a small amount of chaos resist, you're going to be taking less overall damage from physical attacks.

Less certain on the interaction with the other parts, but having a way to lower incoming physical damage on a build that's presumably stacking ES and not armor is nice.

If you have 0 armor and 75% chaos resistance, then 100 phys damage would become 80 phys + 20 chaos (which would be reduced to 5), totaling 85 damage. Chaos damage does double damage to ES, so it would go to 90. That's a 10% phys reduction, which is not astronomical, but is relevant.

The elemental conversion can also be useful if you have increased maximum fire res. If you have 75% lightning res and 80% fire res, then a 100 damage lightning hit would deal 25 lightning damage without Altered Flesh. With AF, it would deal 20 lightning and 4 fire damage, for a total reduction of 1/25 = 4%. Reducing the lightning/cold hit also reduces your chances of being shocked, chilled or frozen
Unnatural resilience on the passive tree is the point (anoint)

I CHOOSE THIS AS WELL BUT IF U CAN EXPLAIN TO ME LIKE IM 5, ITS DEFENSIVE RIGHT?
it serves 3 purposes:

a)it primarily protects vs ailments. Taking 80 cold and 20 fire will protect vs Frozen compared to taking 100 cold.

b)maxxing resistances. Fire resist is easy to get more Max res. You can easily get 80 and with some effort even like 85-87 max fire res. Meaning that it will negate some more damage.

c)chaos resistance, even if you only have like 50%, will be physical mitigation. Armor "%resist" is deceptive. Armor protects more vs small hits and less vs large hits.

So if you get hit for 1000 damage a 20% resistance from armor may only protect you for like 5%, while if you get hit for 50 it may protect you for up to 50% and etc.

Changing the distribution to part chaos not only makes that 200 out of 1000 get mitigated by 50-75% depending on your resistances, but also makes your Armor better since Armor now only has to defend against 800 and Armor naturally helps more vs smaller hits and this Node makes ALL hits basically "smaller" for physical.
