Question about EVASION
Ive noticed a few strange qualities about evasion and Im hoping to get them answered here. The game tooltips say that evasion is a % chance to avoid STRIKES and PROJECTILES but not SLAMS. The passive skill ACROBATICS says that you can evade ALL HITS.
1. What exactly is a hit in PoE 2? There is no tooltip for the term "hit". According to the PoE 1 wiki, A hit is when damage is dealt instantaneously, as opposed to damage over time. Please confirm if this is accurate. 2. Are AoEs considered hits? Im not talking about puddles of acid on the ground that I walk over and get hurt, I understand those can be considered DoTs. I mean a fireball exploding, or a circle on the ground that eventually pops for a single source of damage. I dont seem to be able to dodge those with 75%+ evasion and acrobatics, so Im assuming no, but would be helpful to have the exact limits of what evasion can do. Thanks! You cannot evade Area damage (slams, AoE attacks) or ground damage (burning ground etc) or 'Red attacks' (from bosses). You can evade projectiles (including spells) and strikes (melee).
Acrobatics let's you evade everything except ground effects (not 100% on the ground effects but would be surprised if it could work) Last edited by justgivemeafuckingaccou#1081 on Jan 8, 2025, 4:09:17 PM

" Does that mean spellcasters using projectile spells also need accuracy to counter target's evasion to their projectiles? (which I am fine with, at least now they have good reason to invest in dexterity other than just to fulfill projectile support gem requirements and it makes more sense that you need accuracy to target your projectiles right at your target) Because the confusing part is that the in-game description of accuracy mentions attacks only.. same for the wiki's description of evasion mentioning attacks only: https://www.poe2wiki.net/wiki/Evasion If they don't need accuracy for projectile spells, does that mean there are 2 hit chance equations - one for attacks that includes accuracy and one for projectile spells that doesn't? Traditionally only 'Attacks' go through normal to hit calculations, while spells do not (regardless of any area or over time aspects). I know I've got about 0 Accuracy on my Blood Witch, and her Bonestorm is mowing waves down every cast. I have never seen it 'miss', unless the shot is clearly obstructed and prevented form reaching its target (and I run pierce, so that only happens with walls and corners).
However, there is the possibility PoE2 isn't 'playing fair' in this regard, and treats enemy 'spells' as a normal projectile attack that can evasion can apply to. But given how dangerous I feel Lost-Man casters are to my Evasion Ranger even just in act 2, I suspect their spells are not being dodged. |

A hit is everything except ground effects and debuffs
so acrobatics helps against slams. Wish it was between ranger and mercenary because energy shield can tank slams far more effectively than armour Last edited by Strangehill#1736 on Jan 9, 2025, 5:04:46 AM
