Downranking skill gems

Stat requirements for skills are quite high in POE2, and I'm not necessarily opposed to it. My issue becomes I can only hold 500 gems in a tab and needing to keep multiple of every single rank of gem is kind of insane. My tab has been full for days, and sure I can dump all non rank 3 support gems since they can be used for all. Skill gems however, you can't use for a lower level.

We need some system to drop the level of these to allow for us to stash higher level gems and not have to go hunt for a level 8 gem later etc, when I only have 53 int for a gem on my dex build etc. Oh, I finally found a piece of gear with more than 6 res, but i lost 6 dex. Now to go hunt a level 12 gem to fix my main skill, etc. Otherwise, I can see a lot of frustration with only being able to hold 500 gems with players that play multiple builds.

I know 500 sounds like a lot on paper, but when you have 4 characters to maps and play a lot of builds it adds up super fast. This system would just let you store the higher levels and be able to drop them later as you need them vs having 20 rows in the gems tab as well, improving navigation of the tab itself.

Forgot to mention, if you want the first playthrough to keep the same level of challenge, just make a vendor for this or something that unlocks once you get to maps. Although, with level requirements for using a gem I don't see how you could abuse this too much so realistically, probably not even needed. If you want to buy gems off people you can do that already.

Spent like 40 minutes in act 2 grinding away for a lvl 8 spirit gem... I could have been mapping instead ;-;

Totally agree, this needs to be addressed.
Espacialy because spirit gems are so rare and in SSF I can't trade for the spirit gem with fitting requirements.

I need to do a low character to trade myself the guaranteed gem in campaign or farm a low level zone for hours with 0 reward beside the gem I need.

And don't tell me "you chose SSF, so stop complaining".
I play SSF because I like it and farming a low level spirit gem, while sitting on like 20 lvl 17+ Spirit gems is... I don't know.
In POE1 you can downgrade gems aswel, so the idea is not commpletely new and shouldn't be to hard to implement.
