Character limit POE2

I've been looking around and not found an official answer. What is the character limit that you have before needing to buy extra slots? I never played much of POE1 so I don't have any purchased content like tabs and whatnot but can't seem to find an answer to this question.

I'm thinking of buying some stash tabs and want to keep some of the coins for extra character tabs later if needed.

You get more than enough to not worry about it for much longer than you will likely play the game.

Furthermore, it's a seasonal game model, just delete characters after seasons. They really, really don't matter.
Thank you, I may skip seasons as my time is normally limited so I'll play "non-ladder" or non-season in this case. As for playing for long periods of time, if I enjoy it (so far I do) as much as Diablo 2 I'll play it on and off for a very long time.
You may find yourself playing seasons anyway because they often add things to the game that makes it worth it, and you will want to start new characters anyway after 3+ months usually. After the season is over the characters transfer back to standard.

AS far as max # of characters. Is there a limit? I have characters in standard going back over a decade on PoE 1 lol. I don't think I ever had to delete any? There are a freakton of them that is for sure. I don't play standard so they are just rotting. I probably should clean that all up some year. I have plenty of stash space so could just move the EQ off them into my stash. That being said, I didn't play standard in poe all this time, and it's even Less likely I will in the future now that PoE 2 is here. So yeah, prob not worth the time.

But I personally like to save "builds" I want to play for each season. I generally play 1 or 2 characters only per season, and then take a break till the next season again. That kept it all new enough to me that I never got burnt out or just stopped playing all together.

Seasons are usually at least 3 months, so that is plenty of time to get a few characters through to end game even while working full time (which I was for many of those years).

PoE is a GREAT game to play if you have a family/things distracting you etc, especially if you are playing solo. It's super easy to just teleport back to town and leave your comp while you do whatever, then come back and continue later.

Leagues in PoE 1 where.......massively important, along with the changes/additions of new skills etc.....at keeping interest long term. PoE 1 though did make changing your passive skill tree significantly harder than poe 2 (maybe an hour of farming to reset your full skill tree end game or so). That does worry me since it means 1 character of each ascendency can pretty much let you play any build in the game you want, without making a new character. That will still be 36 characters mind you, and a ton of time invested, but it's waaaay less than PoE 1. That being said if the leagues are good enough, it won't matter cause you would need 36 NEW characters of each ascendency for each league lol.
The thing with seasons is that it takes sooo long to get through the game and get a character built up. Which I guess is fine but that's why i never did it on D2.

What exactly does seasons change? I figured any skill changes would be universal and the season changes were more...tasks or some special function that could be done only by those in the season. or am I wrong?

It's good to know we have so many character slots though.
Seasons add new mechanics to the game, often that are only in that season (Sometimes they get added to standard later though).

The new skill gems etc I think goes into standard as well (not sure, have not played standard in over 10 years).

This season on PoE 1 you get like a town you build up, with farmers, miners, sailors etc. You trade for items/currency and it just adds alot to the game.

Some seasons are like a whole new game in the game, and then sometimes they are enjoyed so much they just add that new mechanic to the game as a whole, which means it's in future seasons as well!!

Honestly I have only played seasons since I don't like playing old characters when I come back. I always like to start fresh. So seasons were made for someone like me.

You can just play standard but, I'm pretty sure I woulda gotten bored along time ago if I did that. Seasons have new things to try. Also usually the change things each season, added new skills, changing some skills, changing the passive tree whatever. That keeps things new as well.

I do hope it will be similar in PoE 2 as well. PoE kept me entertained for over a decade, PoE 2 is gonna outlive me I bet.

I have to delete at the start of every league. Have like 18 slots or something insane. I won't be playing leagues anymore unless they are to my liking. I played many over the decade + and I will not be wasting that time to level 20 sorcs.

Standard is a good place. The economy is different and items are limited after a couple weeks of season end, but you have 3 months to farm up to buy your supplies. Plus imagine how fast you can farm divines solo without a releveling and regearing expeirence.

I'm looking forward to living on standard for the majority of leagues this time around.
Uh-oh. Forums are ugly

You could always create a bunch of characters and count how many you have when they make you stop...
Only source of information is the wiki, it states the default is 24 slots with a maximum of 255.
