PSA - A warning to anyone using PoE Overlay

I've had my PoE account since 2012, and easily have over 10,000 hours played, it has never been compromised. I have a very strong password and 2 factor authentication set up incase anyone logs in from a location that isn't mine.
I came back from a 3 year break around 6-7 weeks ago and was out of the loop what the best app is to use for price checking and monitoring currency per hour etc. I don't remember my google search but the top result was PoE Overlay, so thats what I went with. I've checked my Standard stash tab just now and noticed I only have 1 mirror, I had 6 last time I checked around 3 weeks ago. I've been through every tab and they are no where to be seen. I had 2 remove only tabs with rank 1 alt art Demigod's Dominance in each, one is missing. They have left all of my legacy gear and other alternate art items from races back in the day, which amounts to much more than what they have stolen, some are arguably priceless. I assume because its easier to steal raw currency and not deal with having to sell a bunch of items after. It is not a coincidence that some of my currency and items have been stolen since I started to use PoE Overlay Last bumped on Dec 16, 2024, 10:12:24 PM

why would they leave 1 mirror? why not take all?

all more probable than being hacked and the thieves leaving juice there. hope you get it sorted! |

I've never account shared and you could argue I've misplaced the mirrors, thats fine, but what confirmed someone has been on to my account is that my race reward was missing.
It was in a remove only tab for around 6 years. Remove only meaning once you click the item, it can't be put back in. I kept it there and was very careful to never miss click, which is why I hid remove only tabs to make this impossible Why would they leave 1 mirror? To make it less noticable at first glance I suppose, which is possible since I don't actually play stadard |

no if someone had 7 mirrors then they will notice 6 missing. hackers are not some charity group that will leave 1 mirror behind because they feel sorry for you. they would take it all. i highly doubt you were hacked. look through your tabs again

Dude no you have misplaced that race item and your mirrors.
If someone hacked your account, they literally have zero reason to leave you 1 mirror or pretend they havent been on the account. They would have picked that account to the bone; you wouldnt have had an Identify scroll left if someone made it onto your account, much less leaving a Mirror. They would have sold all your items on every character and vendored/transferred everything you owned off your account. They wouldnt leave a piece of scrap left. " Also how on earth should they get into your account if you have 2FA and u only got an overlay? To be completly sure, just make a support ticket and ask if there were any strange behaviours - they probably even can see if sbdy traded your mirror somewhere. |

Honestly guys you're making out im crazy. I know what I had. I did not take out 5 mirrors and misplace them and I certainly didnt take out one of my race rewards from a remove only tab. They are gone. I've searched every single tab and character thoroughly

" lol that's not really true. there's tons of ways identify theft and people that commit fraud do things like "trickling down" an account with tiny charges, hoping for the person not to notice. they can keep it up for months/years.. in this context, it does seem weird why they would leave just one mirror though. So you had 7 mirrors and the thieves spitted your stack and only took 6 of them? Sorry dude but if that sounds reasonable to you you should really go and see a doctor. Hackers steal everything and most of the time they even delete your chars. Splitting currency and "only" take a part of it is nothing a hacker would ever do!
