Thank You, GGG: Keeping POE and POE2 as Separate Games Was the Right Choice!
Thank you, GGG, for deciding to keep POE and POE2 as separate games.
I’m really happy that POE will still exist. It would have been such a shame if only POE2 was available. The two games are so different from each other. For me personally, POE2 doesn’t really feel like my kind of game. I kind of expected this, so I’m not too disappointed. GGG made it clear from the start that both games would have their own unique identities, which makes perfect sense. No hate towards POE2 fans or the developers! Not every game has to be for everyone. 😊 But please, please don’t forget about POE1 and keep giving it love too. ❤️ Last edited by jonasum#0943 on Dec 14, 2024, 4:53:53 PM Last bumped on Dec 16, 2024, 12:40:20 AM

Let's be real, chances are they are going to shut down PoE 1 eventually. It's definitely probably not the ideal outcome they had in mind that people come to say, "Wow, it's a good thing you separated the games, because the sequel sucks!"
It was a PR safe move, but it being /necessary/ is a pretty bad commentary on PoE 2. |

" They simply had a different vision for POE2. They didn’t necessarily aim to capture the same audience as POE. And this is exactly why they decided to separate the two games. So far, POE2 has been unbelievably successful and clearly appeals to a broad audience that is overall very happy with the game. I’m genuinely super happy for the developers because they just put their hearts into this project. Their dedication is incredible. |

I agree.

" No, they already said poe1 servers are pitifully cheap to run, especially when player counts are way down. |

" +1. My tinfoil hat feeling is they'll milk it and its player base for awhile but won't be putting much effort or resources towards it. since the hardcore ruthless type game is what they have always wanted to make but were forced not too because of lack of support in the community. |

One thing I just realized is that it DOES double their income stream if they feel they can both get away with releasing supporter packs for both games, and have the pipeline to make enough assets to do that many.
Whales playing PoE 2 only would still buy PoE 1 supporter packs if the assets are universally compatible, and vice versa. Not sure how hard that is on their internals though; whether it's extra work to make them compatible with both, or if it's an automatic process once everything is setup (seems to not be so far, since our MTX are not usable in PoE 2). |
