Ascendancy tokens/coins

I am level 68, didn't get any tokens to do my last 2 ascendancies during the campaign, so now Im in endgame, have maps, but have to go back and farm areas sometimes 10 levels lower than me to get an rng coin drop to ATTEMPT to do it? I feel like I am doing something wrong or this system was not explained very well to me, PLEASE HELP
