Game crash in with error "Failed to prefetch virtual memory" in log
|
My game continuously crashed in the
Spoiler
"The Matlan Waterways" map ACT 3 Cruel
When I tried to reconnect my character, the game crashed during (or just after) the loading. Here is the full client.txt crash log. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1EjMhXtpaaulqPanxwnT23f5-YjrS3bOs/view?usp=sharing I managed to unlock my character using another PC, hope this is the only map triggering this crash. Failed to prefetch virtual memory (error: 8)
same for me when entering logbooks |

I solved my "Failed to prefetch virtual memory (error: 8)".
Here is how: 1. Move your PoE folder somewhere else, skip the files that don't want to be moved. 2. Delete the remaining files that did not want to be moved, these are corrupted. 3. Move the game folder back and launch the game. 4. Let steam verify and download Background: Game crashed whenever I entered an specific area, started in act 6. Error message was: Failed to prefetch virtual memory (error: 8) Turns out there where corrupted files that steam verification did not notice! GL & HF! |

I also solved it on my side, but using a more drastic way.
This was a symptom of the end of my old NVME life. I got some windows notifications indicating that the NVME had loads of corrupted cells, and it died soon after. I swaped my NVME for a new one and I did not have any issue since. I think that some POE2 shaders were stored in corrupted areas of the NVME resulting in a file reading failure. This seems consistent with the previous replies. If you encounter this type of failure, you can try a complete reinstallation, or a shader cache cleanup. Checking your storage device sanity could also be a good idea. Have a nice journey into the realm. |
