Non-Hardcore Death : Penalty? Loss?

Hi, just want to say I will be playing POE2 after EA most likely (due to amount of other games I'm playing now),

My understanding is right now there is basically zero penalty for death in non-hardcore mode,
And I have heard there is potentially thoughts about adding some form of penalty for death such as making a character that reaches the max level progression have some more power or such attribute if he has never died and be impacted that way by how many times he died before. (<= which sounds great to me ;; actually at times I was thinking about that as a ideal mechanic in a RPG)

I really like having some form of penalty on death in games, including RPGs, a fair one ofc, generally because it makes it matter if you play better or worse and also rewards a playstyle where you actually avoid dying and make a build that doesn't purely rely on killspeed for example. It makes it matter not just how much time you put into the game to level yourself up but also how well you play so that if you died it sets you back a little bit. It gives an even better sense of difficulty, tied to a sense of consequences. I'm also interested in HC, and there is always that, but just wanted to give that feedback that I think fair penalties on death are really interesting mechanics.
