Please help me figure this out. Wand and focus not changing stats.

I just got a new focus and went to put it on my character. I quickly noticed nothing on my character sheet was changing. My damage changes on my skills but nothing on the sheet. Same for my wand. I then noticed that my stats do change if I move them over to weapon set 2. How does that make any sense?????
