Spirit is suddenly zero?

Level 16 Sorcereress and as I was trying to apply my first level 5 uncut gems, I see a message that I don't have enough spirit. Looking at my character it says Spirit 0.

I have tried unequipping all gear and gems and nothing changes.
I checked the passive skill tree (thinking I overlooked needed to put points into +Spirit or something) and don't see anything related to it.

Do I simply need to level up more to get more spirit to use said uncut gems, or am I missing something? Am I bugged?

Reddit fixes have all centered around using weapon sets - I'm not - I've only used the same rare two handed staff up until this point.

Also, I'm able to cast all spells without any issues, just can't upgrade my spells via gems and Spirit is set to 0.

You do start 0 spirit.

The only ways I know off to get some spirit is either on gear or via questrewards for killing the King of the Mist in act1 and the Witch of the Bog in act3.

If you missed those, go back and kill them.

OK, so I had a quest item in my inventory I had overlooked that granted +30 to spirit upon right-clicking. Replying here in case anyone else happens to make the same oversight.
