Question on Evasion % reducing as I level up

Hello first of all just wanna say I am not that good in understanding technicalities and damage formula (coz I suck at math)

Is it correct for me to assume in a simple way that for e.g if I am at level 40 and my evasion is 38% and I face a monster with the same level as me I would have that percentage number to evade it's attack? but let's say if I attack a monster with level that is lower than me I would have higher percentage to evade? that's my basic question actually because I kept worrying when I level up my evasion rating kept going down.

Secondly, does gear that gives modifiers of accuracy or evasion increase helps add up my base evasion stats?

Currently playing monk and I don't know which is better, going for full evasion or evasion/energy shield since most of my gears give full evasion instead of the dual stats.

Thanks for the help if anyone care to explain.

38% is against monster with like average accuracy among monsters of your level. But different monsters have difference accuracy, and ofc monsters of higher level tend to have large accuracy, on average.

I think, the more evade rating you have, the less effect of getting more if it, so combining it with energy shield should work. Well, I'm sure there are different was to do it. My ranger have only evade - no armor, ni shield, almost no res, but chance to evade is over 80%, it can work too depending on how you want to play.

how did you manage to maintain your evasion to 80%? mine keep reducing every time I level up. Do I have to get gears with evasion stat boost?
As said before, evasion is calculated against monster accuracy and that changes as monster-level rises.

In short, you have to get high evasion numbers on your gear and scale it with increases on the passive tree to keep up.

It's actually more complicated than that and the % of evasion is basically as useful as the damage mitigation % from armour.

As a rule of thumb, if evasion is ur only defense, get as much as possible. Maybe combine it with blind and obviously an high enough life pool to survive when u get hit eventually.

The posters above are right about the stat sheet tho, the percentage that's shown is against a monster of equal level and standardized accuracy, that's why it changes. (I think of a white mob)
But like I said, it's not really saying much. U should aim to get >80%.

I'd like to explain how it really works, but it's much easier to look it up on the wiki or YT honestly. (entropy system)

Of course. To have very high evasion, all your armor should probably give evasion. There also a buff you can activate for 30 spirit, it gives 60% more evasion, but it deactivates for few seconds after being hit (Wind dance). And passive nodes from tree with evasion increase. I am using node with +100% increased evasion at full life, but it reduces evasion not at full life. Also, I am deadeye and have +150% increased from gathering winds. But if I got hit by anything, I am loosing many buffs and my evasion slightly below 80%. There is also node on passive tree which doubles evasion from body armor, it is a good increase and not far from monk area (I don't use it though, my body armor is unique and doesn't give any evasion).

thanx guys for the input. I guess I have to path the nodes on my skill tree for evasion and get gears that have invasion.
Btw, changed my build by wearing normal body armor, took that node and now get 92% estimated evasion chance at full hp on level 73. Might be higher when will upgrade my armor with additional socket.
