Frozen Locus should have the Limit keyword

So I was looking through various support gems and I saw the Overabundance support, and I thought "hey this would be cool with Frozen Locus" so I engraved Overabundance, except that apparently it can't support Frozen Locus because Frozen Locus doesn't have the Limit keyword.
Unless I'm not aware of some interaction with Maximum, I really can't think of a reason why Frozen Locus would say "Maximum 1 Ice Crystal" rather than "Limit 1 Ice Crystal", so in my opinion it should be changed to Limit. Also, I'm not (currently) familiar with other skills that generate Ice Crystals, but if they also say Maximum rather than Limit then I would probably suggest they also be changed as well. Let me know if I'm missing something here, but if not then I think it would be better this way. Last bumped on Oct 13, 2025, 7:58:58 PM

Did a search to make the same complaint. Sad to see the previous one made by someone from 0.1... but maybe this time we'll get traction. Frost Wall is the other ice crystal skill, and it just has no limit/max nothin'.
I love Frozen Locus, and it, Frost Wall, Ice Shards, etc. need that 0.5 second of 80% less damage reverted, feels awful, but that's a separate issue. Now with Stormweaver's Multiplying Squalls +1 Limit to Elemental Skills, it prompted me to bring up the issue again. From checking the terminology between Limit and Maximum, seem like Maximum is for buffs and stages... and Frozen Locus, Earthquake, Earthshatter, Rain of Arrows (literally same functionality as Firestorm), Ice Shards, Lightning Rod, Spearfield. Limit is used for Totems, Marks, Fissures, Payload Arrows/Spears (including lodged Rapid Assault spears), Temporary Minions, Offerings, Orbs, Firestorm, and Living Bomb. Maybe Frozen Locus and the other outliers are remnants from a time before a distinction was made? Also it seems with Lightning Rod and Spearfield, it's just using maximum to say, "Hey, +1 limit would do nothing to the already high limit, just call it a maximum so you don't even bother try to raise the number." Sidenote: upping the limit of Vine Arrow doesn't up the limit of vine arrow debuffs able to affect. Would be neat if it went all the way, and you could +limit other one-of debuffs like Essence Drain, but I could see that being a can of worms. And then Shield Wall and Ember Fusillade are neither. "Can have 2 Shield Walls active at a time." "Can accumulate X embers." Hoping for some distinct terminology use, to make things more intuitive. |
