Raise shield getting cancelled by move click needs to change.

I'm playing a shield warrior with a mouse, and I don't want to play WASD.
With WASD, you can raise shield and move in all four directions, with the shield raised. With mouse click, the shield is lowered whenever you click, essentially nerfing the skill for mouse users. Solution suggestion: - Make mouse movements no longer undo raised shield. (mandatory) - Make raise shields a "toggle" skill. Press skill once, shield is raised until you press it again or use another skill. Better yet, make the skill a two-parter. One part to toggle on/off and one subskill to choose where to face. The best way to implement this would be to that subskill a general shortcut you can assign in your input options like weapon swap etc. That way, you can toggle your shield on, move around with your mouse, and press your custom shortcut to change the direction when needed. Thank you for your time. Last bumped on Oct 14, 2025, 8:08:13 PM

" There are many reasons to disagree tbh. My main reason is accessability, 2 hands amputated, and my limitation is one arm on keyboard, can't do movement and spells at the same time. Stopping movement to cast will lead to deaths. Clicking to move is great, got >25k hours in PoE 1 with it just fine. The issue is the usability gap of the Raise Shield skill here, and it can, and needs improvement. Issue #1 When holding down the Raise Shield skill button, clicking to move drops the shield and you run instead. My suggested solution When holding down Raise Shield and clicking somewhere, it should walk with shield up same as WASD movement rather than run. Issue #2 With WASD you have free movement in any direction while blocking. On the contrary, with M&KB you'll walk to the location yur cursor was at when you pressed Raise Shield. My suggested solution (Suggsting solution here is hard, but I have 2) 1) When blocking, lock the rotation to the direction when blocking was first initiated. 2) Allow namelocking block direction. And to be fair, there are many solutions with a smaller gap between WASD and M&KB Last edited by NecroX93#1348 on Dec 10, 2024, 5:34:01 PM

+1. Why does it work like this? You have a function in the game that works with one input method and not another, why?
Is there any settings work around with mouse/keyboard input that achieves the same output? Is it only for raise shield, or are there other skills that encounter this? The other movement skills I've tried, such as rolling slam, do not seem to function differently between the input methods. Last edited by Belegur85#5784 on Oct 9, 2025, 6:14:49 AM

     +1 upvote. Agree with contributors.
Raise Shield feels so different/wrong and bad when bound to mouse OR keyboard (tested last 2 hrs, with various keybinds for best preferred play, on a Witch-Minion).. keeps dropping Spell Action. Unable to Raise Shield and Move simultaneously. Like what others have expounded - keep WASD and KBM as equal as possible. Should aim to keep the advantages and options for players' agency fair and similar as much as possible. ... Technical difficulty?? GGG?? Last edited by dexpoe2#4894 on Oct 14, 2025, 12:30:14 PM

From what I could tell with some brief testing, it seems like with mouse you can continue moving with shield up, but it will not let you make further movement actions once shield is raised. Whereas with WASD it is possible.
This is also only the case if you have got 'attack without moving' toggled off. If it is toggled on, the player stops moving instantly when the shield is raised. It seems to me, like a better functionality might be to keep that when attack without moving, but allow the player to move with shield raised if 'attack without moving is' not toggled. I think that would mean it then has similar or closer functionality to WASD. If the other function is also needed, as often is the case with these things, that someone wants the existing functionality, there could be a further option in the settings menu, that toggles between these versions of 'attack without moving'. I have not thought it through completely and may be missing some understanding, but it seems to me like that would work and potentially for other skills where there might be a difference as well. In the case of rolling slam, which does seem to work like WASD, if the player wanted to remove the rotation for some reason, having this third functionality from the settings menu might also help. When playing melee mace builds, which is what I have mostly played so far, I did not notice anything other function that I thought might be missing, I just thought that was how the raise shield worked before tuning on WASD. I very briefly tried some crossbow in act 1, and it did not seem like there was much strafe type movement possible. With some spell skills it seemed the movement was there, but I don't know if it was the full functionality, and possible because I was using a stutter step. I have not tested these much, I didn't swap to WASD, it just seemed like some of the functions are possibly different, like with raised shield. " Do you know exactly why there is or needs to be a gap? I'm not familiar with WASD so I don't understand why there might be a difference. From just turning it on to look at it, it seems that WASD does not replace the mouse functionality, WASD user would still be using the mouse for cursor, but has added functionality of strafing, and whilst more buttons to control, is also adding another vector to some skills, where these functions are both combined on the mouse, so do not act independently?
