Targeting with controller big sad

I've seen a couple of threads about how frustrating console controls can be. I don't think I have a single game session where I place a frost bomb on a completely different character than the one I'm attempting to aim at. Or unearth in the wrong direction. Or firing projectiles away from a boss because I'm no longer targeting them.

I get that each joystick allows you to move /face in a different direction but, honestly question, how am I supposed to use my right joystick to aim and fire an ability at the same time? It's like any time I try using the right joystick to adjust where I'm aiming, auto target fucks it up anyway?

So far, I'm in act 2 trying the trials and I've come across my biggest annoyance so far (aside from my opinion that the trials are too unforgiving in terms of losing honor and how able you are to restore it…). Gauntlet levers and escape death crystals are a bigger threat to my survival than any enemy I've encountered so far. I haven't completed the first trial yet because getting a map that isn't super punishing has been a struggle. Reduced movement speed + gauntlet traps + having to stand still to be able to properly target a lever = easy 100-200 honor down the drain. One of the last escape trials I had, I was killed by a mob while I was trying to target the crystal to be able to advance.

I'm hoping the targeting will be adjusted to give us an easier time but if not, some kind of tuning to make the game more forgiving to people playing on controllers would be nice. I'm also not sure why we don't have the ability to manually lock on to a target and I think this would be a good addition.

Yea, game is definitely more friendly on PC. They went all in on consoles, even told us it was made with controller in mind, but it absolutely does not feel that way. Wonder how many end-to-end full play tests they had people do on controller only.
I think they should make an even freer auto aim option to detect targets in a cone or a 3 foot wide line. Would solve part of the issue anyway. This is also a bit of an issue with some skills on PC from the streams I've watched. Character twitches back and forth like they are having a fit.
Am I going crazy or wasn't there an option earlier that allowed you to disable auto targeting?

That's what they said in interviews, but currently you have crazy sticky autoaim or somewhat sticky autoaim.
Trying to use Pain offering is literally a pain…. Usually the cast fails coz I were targetting an enemy and not a minion.
Just a heads up if your having trouble on controller. From the skills menu if you select 'Skill Options' on a skill a lot of them have an option for 'Enable Held Targeting' and it enable precise aim with right stick.

+1 to this, it's especially painful when you link Pain Offering with some kind of a downside (e.g. cooldown), because when it misses, you are SoL.

I propose offerings target alive minions automatically at least :)
no issue at all 4 me...feels even better than on pc
I’m having trouble with active block during boss fights on my PS5 controller. When I try to block projectiles, auto-targeting focuses on the boss or adds instead, making it hard to block effectively.
