Losing boss rewards on death

Second time it happened that i die in the same time as the boss or from a dot shortly after, the problem is that map resets on death and bosses have important character rewards like skill points.

why does the map reset on death in the first place???

this doesn't happen with bosses only. you can be killing rare or champion mobs and last hit the champion, see the loot drop, but then die to mobs before you can pick it up

what is even the point of that existing in the game?

people who want to play like that can opt into hardcore, but there's no place for that in a normal playthrough really
