How do you attack with crossbow with mercenary character?

Tried XBox Pro Elite 2 and Duelsense Edge and neither fires projectiles when I hit X or square as the game tells me to do. Left clicking a mouse is the only way a projectile fires.

To clarify, when I press the button, I can see the skill box react to my press, but no projectiles are fired.

Not sure, but the skill is like, you load the bolts and you have to fire with another one. Not sure if you understand what I mean. If you click another time on the bolt skill, it will reload it.

Yeah, I figured it out. I binded the attack to triangle on PS5 controller. I was confused because the game told me to attack with X, which is the reload button. Thanks for responding.
