General chat only visible immediately after logging in

For the past month or so the General chat I use has not shown me text besides a line or two immediately after I log in to a character. As I'm in a smaller general community I figured it was just the case of most of the users having quit the league or moved on to Necro Settlers but the other day I saw what was clearly the middle of a conversation and figured either my chat doesn't work or I've been deafened (is that even a thing? Like a reverse mute). I still receive PMs and local works fine but general, and trade when I went to test, do not appear on my end.
