Hard Lessons from Settlers Necro - Scarab rework

Tbh I have mixed feelings about this. I'm pretty sure I made more than 200 divines from selling scarabs alone this league. 3 small shipments every ~30 minutes plus all the scarabs you get from your maps worked more than fine for me. Sure if your goal is to earn multiple mirrors maybe scarabs aren't the way to go now but for us mere mortals scarabs are in a pretty good spot I guess. Without the shipments of course it would be another story.

I still stand by my opinion that I'm glad for the scarab rework and sextant removal. I'd rather buy tens of scarabs I can then jam into the map device than constantly reroll sextants for desired mods that are only good for 3-4 maps before having to do it all over again.

"Just buy compasses 5head"

And risk gambling on not making enough back from the investment? No thanks. At least I know what I'm buying with scarabs.

Right now there is a total of only 4 scarabs out of more than 100 scarabs that are not worth using outside of T17s:

- Preservation
- Glittering
- Bloodlines
- Awakening (technically still T16 viable with harvest, twist of fate, risk)

Is that really an issue if it's only 4 scarabs?

I tested several atlas strategies for currency making this league. After running 20 Ultimatums, I can safely say the scarabs aren't worth it in T16 either, especially not the inscription scarab. Even though I was able to run them, I ended up losing currency trying.
PoE players: Our game has a wide diversity of builds.

Also PoE players: The [league mechanic] doesn't need to be nerfed, you just need to play a [current meta] build!

MFers found strength in their Afflictions. They became reliant on them. I am not so foolish.

I don't like the scarab rework. As someone who never used sextants it was 100% a nerf.

Scrabs use up so much space, the ones I want to use are always prohibitively expensive (it costs more to use 1 then I could get in a map)

The drop pool is littered with heaps of these things that just aren't impactful.

Sextants were largely optional, but the base drops without scarabs is absurdly bad. Like spend a session without using them and see how bad mapping feels. It just isn't as rewarding to alc and go as it was before the change.
back when sextants were a thing i hated rolling sextants. heck when atlas stone thingys were craftable. i hated them too.

going back a little i remember i RAGE QUIT from legacy league as i had a "gazillion" league stones which had various different charges and bonuses, i just wanted to delete all of them and never be bothered with them ever again.

but i got to admit i did feel somewhat annoyed during the sextant rework because i had saved up a huge lot of nice harvest sextants. all of which turned into random scarabs.

as for roundishcaps comment. i would share a little by saying that sextants were prohibitive too. some were very rare and you COULD spend a lot of currency trying to roll the ones you want OR you could just buy the actual sextant you wanted.

your comment about it being largely optional, its the same now. doing maps without sextants you feel like you're missing out a lot.

but i would say the implementation is still much better now since we have a node that gives us 20 passive points in return.

in fact i m using that node as i really dont want to care for micromanaging my scarabs.

scarabs are waaaaaay easier to manage than sextants.

i really find it surprising and sad that GGG went back to a version of sextants for POE2.

they reworked sextants away only to reintroduce them back in. GGG pls.

Sextants never felt mandatory especially for simple things like Essence farming. Whereas they feel 100% mandatory now. Mostly due to things like Ascent (one tier up) being taken off the tree.

Playing Necro Settlers has made it painfully obvious that drop rates need to go up for some of these things. As once the boat is gone it is extremely prohibitive to farm these things yourself without scarabs.

T17s just really made the problem worse IMO for a lot of scarabs, as the ROI is so much higher in T17 than T16 and is thus priced accordingly.
