Pierce support on Ricochet Ascendancy

Sorry in advance for the stupid question, but if I have specced into the "Ricochet" ascendancy, will adding "pierce" support to a skill prevent that skill from benefiting from the chaining ability from ricochet until all pierces are complete? (In other words, does pierce prevent chain because pierce "comes first" in the priority of projectile behavior?)
