Your problem is that block isn't safe sometimes a hit will get through your block and then you need some serious mitigation. Some hits (especially from bosses) can hit like a truck so either you move out of the way or have evasion or you need a lot of armour and your char only has about 20k armour. If you want to facetank at least some physical boss hits I would recommend you to have at least 200k armour. And while the shield isn't the worst shield out there it is utter garbage compared to some really good shields like Svalinn or Aegis Aurora (Aegis needs another build).

How are you generating your endurance charges? I can see you are using aggressive bastion but is there any other way? If not, were they up when you died to the boss? I would also be looking at getting more armor, 20k is a bit low for a build using dome. It should be fine since you are a glad, but every now and then you might get one shot especially if endurance charges dropped off.

" A note on this in particular, Physical damage operates differently than say, Resistances, and the defense tab's "Estimated 90% physical reduction" is very misleading, and is only accurate against an unmodified 'white' monster, for rares and bosses that percentage can go down dramatically, it's a reduction compared to Damage vs Armor, and can never be greater than 1/5th of your armor (so with your 21k, you'll never reduce the damage more than 4300. For a live example, The Blacksmith at T16 is going to hit for about 4,600 with his heavy strike (with NO extra modifiers from the map), and he pops 3 of these in rapid succession. Doing some dirty math for armor, you're only cutting about 30% of this from armor alone, so his heavy strike is going to bop you for about 9450 Damage (which then gets cut by your Endurance and other factors. Even cutting that by half, it's enough to drop you at 4.5K health. Of course you're likely going to block one of them, but if you where at 50% already you're in a really bad spot. If you got unlucky and missed blocking any of those hits, you're about doomed. And you've like a favored coinflip to block, but I've seen a lot of bad coinflips. And this is all factoring the easiest form of The Blacksmith I can conjure with the information given, this is a zero modifier T16 Map with nothing else at play (Like the Maven or other very likely map modifiers and juice). Yep, as above. A very good description of the age long battle against estimated character sheet PDR on the forum.
Your post also did not mention the map mods. Can rule out that you were crit because of brass dome, but there are a lot of mods that increase boss damage. Also eldritch/maven if your running either of those can make the boss encounter tougher. Do you know what map it was? There are some bosses that do pretty big one shot mechanics, some that come to mind are Glacier, underground river, palace and crystal ore. I would not intentionally tank these abilities in hc will the builds I play, which is pretty similar to the sort of gear your using. I don't really understand the aura set up you are using, but I think most builds using brass dome will be running determination. Flesh and stone might be another option. Other than that granite and or basalt flask. Sounds from your title that you got hit more than once, so im wondering if your immortal call was up. Is this the best guard skill for your build? It's probably very good when its up, but what happens when it drops off? if you are bossing you may of had your endurance charges removed? I'm wondering if this is a better option than molten shell for your build, but I don't know the answer.
