Whats the status of the game these days?
Hello Exiles!
I haven't played POE for quite some time. Maybe since the Expedition league. Lately i checked out LE, but the community is rather small and I'm not sure i like the setting. I don't want to spend 70$ on D4, and im pretty sure that similar to POE2 my pc will not run it nicely. One of the reasons I left POE was because of the odd 3rd party trading system, and constant alt-tabbing for currencies, items, recipes, builds that need to be followed to a dot etc. Has this changed at all in past years? Mainly interested about trading possibilities. Also, any idea on POE future? Has GGG made any statements on on supporting the game and introducing new leagues, or are they solely focusing on POE2? quick disclaimer - i have done few google searches and tried to skim trough some YT videos, but couldn't find a solid answer. Thanks! Last bumped on Nov 8, 2024, 2:26:49 PM

There is a in-game currency exchange that lets you trade most stackable items without interacting with people. It was introduced this league, suggest watching the 3.25 release overview.

To answer your questions directly:
- GGG now has a dedicated trade website: https://www.pathofexile.com/trade - The game, as of the latest league, now has in-game currency trading. - QoL improvements have been off the charts in recent leagues. The game is in a great state. - POE1 will continue to release league content, independent of (and concurrently with) POE2. You'll still need to alt-tab for build guides and whatnot. The complexity is still very much there. A second monitor is recommended. |

You Stopped playing 3 and a half years ago and the game has added quite a bit since then.
Definitely play league, not standard. The currency exchange is too good to miss if you're coming back. This combined with the free currency people are getting from the afk-map runners and afk shipments. I played D4 for 45 minutes a year ago and haven't touched it since. I personally consider it one of the worst RPGs I've ever played. Such a shame because D2R was a masterpiece. Last Epoch is better than D4, but still, you can't make chicken soup with chicken shit. You can check pretty accurate prices of things in-game now using Awakened poe trade overlay. Though you should also use PoE' own trade website which is great. You can list items in premium tabs for easy selling. PoE 2's development plays a big role in the release schedules of PoE1. Anyone who says otherwise has their eyes and ears closed. The server ambitions for the beta pushed 3.25 out to be a 6-month league. You could wait until January-February for the next league. Or you could just fluff about in standard with any currency you have and make something to play around with periodically until the new league. I'm struggling to come up with new goals to keep me playing this game.

they sure seem solely focusing on poe2... even delayed the next poe1 league by a ton. also delayed the poe2 beta so yeah there's that. which sucks arse.
but i guess i have time to drown people in my water park imma go build starting tomorrow cause sadly i have to go nap nap now. "Now all that's left is for you getting on your knees."
if you know thanks me:) i'm dying to find out x'D | |
Despite their focus being mainly on PoE 2, we've had some stellar leagues as of late with great additions to the game as well as QoL updates. Tomorrow (07/11) is a great time to get back into the game with the new event coming up.
Sometimes, just sometimes, you should really consider adapting to the world, instead of demanding that the world adapts to you.

" I wouldn't be too sure on the PC issues. PoE2 has higher requirements than PoE1, but as I understand it's still being developed for, and on, modest rigs. They can't go too nuts given that they're also developing for the console market, especially given the desire and I believe active plans for crossplay. " Item trading still exists in largely the same state it did during (s)Expedition. You do need to alt-tab out of the game to do trades for non-stackable items, though the system is integrated directly into GGG's servers and systems now. There's a "Trade" tab in the header bar at the top of the website that will take you there. Newly introduced and tested in 3.25 Settlers of Kalguur is a currency exchange system integrated directly into the game client and fueled with gold. This allows you to place asynchronous buy and sell orders that can be fulfilled even when you're offline, and which require no player interactions to complete. It is dramatically easier to swap currencies around in Settlers of Kalguur, though this did have the unfortunate knock-on effect of sharply reducing the comparative value of common crafting currencies such as alts, jewelers or fusings. Excellent if you're short on those currencies and want to swap a few chaos for them; terrible if you're trying to address a lack of chaos by swapping people for those currencies. There is a very strong push by the playerbase to incorporate gear trades into this system as well, especially given the statement by Jonathan Rogers that this system works for currency and gear both in PoE2. There is an equally strong push from a large portion of the playerbase to eliminate the gold cost currently associated with the currency exchange, as well as eliminate tha maximum active trade limit (the exchange only allows a relatively small total number of active Sell orders at once), so they can list every single item they pick up in the entire game for sale. This would be utterly disastrous for Path of Exile, but the push for gear integration into the currency market - and for retaining the currency market after Settlers and Settlers 2.0 dies - is so strong I don't think Grinding Gear has a choice anymore. So trade has been partially addressed, and will be fully addressed within 3.26 or possibly 3.27 at the latest. " The current plan is for Path of Exile 1 to receive full ongoing support, to the same or greater level it received prior to PoE2, for the lifetime of the game. Grinding Gear sees no reason to discontinue work on PoE1, nor slow the voracious pace of league releases, just because PoE2 released. They intend to stagger league launches between the two games, i.e. Path 1 leagues drop in the middle of a Path 2 league and vice versa, whenever possible to space the launches out and allow players who want to keep up with both games time to do so. This plan has been disrupted by the current woes of game development; there were only two leagues in 2024 and the playerbase is taking that very poorly, but that is not an indication that PoE1 is being abandoned. Rather, it's an indication that the final home-stretch sprint to finish enough of PoE2 to put it into the public's hands is well and truly underway and every hour they can scrape from the barrel to get stuff in under the buzzer is being scraped. Unanticipated problems with their account database provoked an unexpected and bitterly regretted delay in PoE2, but again - this isn't a sign of Changed Plans, but of Unfortunate Happenstance. Once the second game goes live and things start to settle down? Development efforts and resources between the two games will normalize, and the plan will go back into effect. The only reason PoE1 might die is if the playerbase abandons it so thoroughly that it no longer makes financial sense for GGG to run it. And frankly, I'm a MechWarrior Online player. If THAT game can keep the lights on with the community it currently has? Like...three streamers and Phrazz, by themselves, would be enough to keep PoE1 running. So no worries about the longevity of the first game. Last edited by 1453R on Nov 8, 2024, 2:28:52 PM
