Dying a lot and not really sure why
Pretty much the title I'm pretty new and I just started mapping but im not really sure why I'm dying so much, i've tried to build into chaos resist and spell supress but it doesn't rlly seem to make me survive much longer and idk if i should just restart. If someone could peep and let me know if im doing sum wrong it would be massively appreciated

there are a variety of factors in play during mapping.
But first and foremost your gear. You would be looking to have a good chunk of life on all items, coupled with at least 2 resistances per item (mix and match there but 30% per resist) to get you overcapped(helps deal with curses that reduce your resistances) You don't have any life nodes taken on the passive tree, nor any real defences past some life leech. Your weapon also needs an upgrade. And the maps themselves can have mods that are not healthy for your character (like stuff that prevents health regen, reductions in armour and block, having curses applied, a flat reduction to your max res etc You may need to respec, which you can do via orbs of regret OR via Faustus the financer (for gold) Ancestral Bond. It's a thing that does stuff. -Vipermagi

Are you following a build guide? Highly suggest you find one and follow it for passive points/gearing/skill gems, at least until you understanding all the basics of defensive layers and how everything works together.

" I tried getting into the game with guides before and i have a tiny bit of understanding on what to do but following a guide i never really had fun with the game and always felt like i was just going through the motions and not really understanding why. Just trying to figure it out on my own and problem solve has made the game a lot more enjoyable for me but its starting to feel like I'm hitting a wall which ik was bound to happen at some point but I'm not quite sure how to fix it Last edited by ßabo#7485 on Nov 6, 2024, 10:40:03 AM

" Appreciate the help, any advice on which defenses to invest into? I've maxed my resist and trying to get to 95 overcap should i just continue to invest in spell supress or is there a node or mechanic i should look at? It took me a min to realize armor only applies to phys dmg we don't talk ab it lmao Last edited by ßabo#7485 on Nov 6, 2024, 10:44:01 AM

Totally get it about wanting to learn on your own. Unfortunately, I have never played your character class, so I can't tell if you are missing anything big on your skill points.
I would suggest you at least go compare your skill tree setup to some other characters. If you have never used ninja before: -You can filter by level, so you arent just looking at lvl100's. -Select to filter, your class, your main attack skill, and any build defining uniques you use. This will ensure you are only comparing to similar builds. -You can then re-sort the list by eHP, life, or DPS, depending on what you value more (probably eHP or life, since you are asking about dying) https://poe.ninja/builds/settlers As for defense layer basics, I would always focus on getting: -Elemental ailment immunity -Stun immunity -Reduced effect of curses “Freedom is what we do with what is done to us.”

"Your main problem is life. As mentioned above, you need to upgrade your equipment to items with life and resistances, and also take life nodes in the passive tree (and remove the res nodes when you get enough res on items). "According to PoB you have 62% fire res. "I think it's too early for you to invest in suppress. For now, you should focus on life, res, armor, and possibly evasion (if you remove the Unwavering Stance passive). Endurance charges are also a good option. In your part of the passive tree, it's easy to get 5 max charges, with enough sustain, this is a 20% reduced damage taken. You have a physical build, but your weapon doesn't have any physical damage mods. Do you know that you can change mods on items using various currencies? And add another support to the main link, you have a free socket there. And why don't you use life flask? Last edited by seaman#4993 on Nov 6, 2024, 11:15:10 AM

Yeah, basically what the others have mentioned. It's good to try and figure things out on your own but I think you will be hitting a bit of a wall with what you are doing.
You've done well to get where you are, but there is multiple factors on you build that will start to make it feel like your pushing uphill. Gear is probably the biggest one followed by your tree. You can improve the character a lot but it's not a quick fix, rather just improving everything. Having a guard skill is probably something that will be instantly helpful. If you put something like CWDT/lifetap/moltenshell in your chest it will help prevent some deaths. Improving your offense can also help. I don't think you are using a curse which is standard on most builds. Vaal pact might be okay, but I wouldn't suggest it for beginning, because of it disabling your other healing. If you are dying before you can leech it is not useful. Normal leech and flask is probably better for you. As others have mentioned leech is dependent on health pool, and you haven't invested many points into life. Since you have no other defenses except armor/res your going to need a fair bit of life. Your also using aspect of carnage, which is a good ascendency, but makes you even more squishy. Flesh and stone sand stance might be helpful if you can fit it in, and/or fortification. |
