Skin Transfer Bug: Cospri's Malice >>> Ephemeral Edge

Dear GGG team

In current 3.25 league I have encountered this bug regarding Skin Transfer:

--------------------
BUG DECRIPTION
--------------------
- When I try to apply skin from "Cospri's Malice" to "Ephemeral Edge" it doesn't work and I receive message "The two items must be the same type".
- Since both weapons have the same item type "One Handed Sword" the skin transfer SHOULD work.

--------------------
TESTING
--------------------
I did some testing - it costed me a few skin transfers so if this helps you resolve the issue I will not be against some free skin transfers ;) anyway the reason why I believe its not working is this:

- Both items (Cospri's Malice and Ephemeral Edge) LOOKS LIKE the same item type in the game (Item Class: One Handed Sword)

- But if you copy paste each item outside the game (for example CTRL+C in game and CTRL+V into Notepad or Path of Building) you see they have DIFFERENT item type

Cospri's Malice
- Item Class: Thrusting One Hand Swords
- Rarity: Unique
- Jewelled Foil

Ephemeral Edge
- Item Class: One Hand Swords
- Rarity: Unique
- Dusk Blade

--------------------
CONCLUSION
--------------------
I believe the Skin transfer is not working because item class in the game code code is not 100% the same: "One Hand Swords" vs "Thrusting One Hand Swords".

I hope this will help and the bug can be easily corrected. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication to your fans.

Best regards

After further testing I can confirm that my previous observations were correct. I found 3 other swords which doesn't work properly for skin transfer.

--------------------
TESTING #2
--------------------
- 3 weapons below shows in game as "One Handed Sword"
- if you export these weapons outside the game, they identify as "Thrusting One Hand Swords"
- skin transfer from these weapons to Ephemeral Edge doesn't work

Aurumvorax
- Item Class: Thrusting One Hand Swords
- Rarity: Unique
- Basket Rapier

Daresso's Passion
- Item Class: Thrusting One Hand Swords
- Rarity: Unique
- Estoc

Fidelitas' Spike
- Item Class: Thrusting One Hand Swords
- Rarity: Unique
- Jagged Foil

It's not a bug. One-handed swords and thrusting one-handed swords are not the same weapon class; they have different attack animations and the characters hold them differently.

The same is true of one-handed maces vs sceptres.
Thank you for your comment @ARealLifeCaribbeanPirate

If what you are saying is true, there are 2 issues:

-------

1. MTX description is misleading

Text on Skin Transfer Consumable says "Destroys one item to apply its appearance to another" but nothing say it has to be same weapon class or even item class. This should be easy to correct by adding better explanation into MTX description.

2. Weapon Class information is not available in game

You say item have to be the same weapon class for MTX to work, but you can't check in-game what weapon class the item is. It doesn't show with normal description not with detailed item description. So if the player buys Skin Transfer and based on the in-game information available to him wants to transfer skin from one hand sword to another it will not work in many cases.

-------

Here are two suggestions how to improve current state of things:

1. Refine the description of Skin Transfer MTX so the players can understand how it really works

2. Make Skin Transfer MTX works based on in-game information available to all players rather then on metadata only expert players knows how to find. If the weapon is "One Handed Sword" allow us use skin transfer for any other "One Handed Sword" (of course in case the current game coding allows it).

-------

Appreciate any help or feedback regarding this topic :)

I had no idea that the Consumable description didn't tell you that the weapon class had to line up; assuming that's true then GGG should absolutely make that change and refund everyone who bought this effect thinking it would work differently.

This is what the Microtransactions Shop says about Skin Transfer:

Transfers the visual appearance of one item to another of the same type, destroying the first item until reclaimed.

And at the Item Data Page One Handed Sword and Thrusting One Handed Sword are clearly two different Weapon Types.
So no need to change anything imo.
relax - it's just ones and zeros!
