Absolution CWDT Targeting

Hi there,

this was first reported in 2021 already, but without any official replies and no fix yet and the original thread is locked.


If you trigger Absolution / Absolution of Inspiring via Cast when damage taken it always centers the cast at the player instead of aiming it towards the closest enemy.

Every other targeted AoE spell like Storm Call, Cold Snap, ect. will auto-target by default, so this is definitely a bug and can't be the intended behavior.

That's wierd because Mark explained here the reason why Strom Call should target your location, and it does according to my test with Gluttony belt.

I tested again and indeed Storm Call has the same selftargeting behavior when the damage comes from self hits. I was testing it against monsters in Blood Aqueducts where it accurately hit the monster that triggered the damage threshold.

Cold Snap however does target nearby monsters, even if the damage is self-inflicted.

I guess it is not a bug after all, but very inconsistend design in my eyes. Cold Snap, Fire Storm, Storm Call and Absolution function very similar as they can all target a specific area without a monster.

Firestorm targets an area and deals damage only after the meteors explode on ground contact, Storm call marks an area and deals damage after a delay. Yet Firestorm seeks for a valid enemy if triggered by self damage and Storm Call does not.

Cold Snap targets an area and deals instant damage, Absolution does exactly the same. Yet Cold Snap seeks for a valid enemy, Absolution does not.

Personally I believe all of these skills should behave the same.
