Vaal Pact + Smite

As far as I know, Vaal Pact should give me Melee Instant Leech but it doesn't seem to be working like that with Smite, I thought Instant Leech worked like that until I used other abilities, isn't Smite supposed to have the Melee tag?

Sure, and so do Molten Strike and Frost Blades. The skill having the tag does not mean that the tag applies to every part of the skill.

According to the wiki, the part of Smite where you swing your weapon is melee; the part where a lightning bolt deals damage in an area is not melee.

Well, that makes sense, I guess.
