My biggest complaint about the Settlers League is Gold Costs.
You need -sooooo- much gold to upgrade everything.
I don't even have super high level people (rank 7 is my highest rank) and I'm running into the issue that, without even having mappers up, my upkeep costs are nearly 10,000. Even when I am doing mapping it takes me 2-3 maps to fund my town for just a and hour and a half. I want to engage with the town and get the most out of it I can, but it takes me hours of doing maps to be able to afford to leave the town unattended for a few hours without everything just shutting down. I have exactly 0 issue with the town and I have to pay them 50k+ an hour. I don't do any fancy gold strategy either

It depends what content you run, some activities print it some give nearly nothing its somewhat arbitrary.
I had to disable my town to get all the upgrades done, it took me a couple of days then before i could renable it and its been fine since but my expenditure was just too high to dump 100k in upgrades that effectively do nothing. Now though I have a test character i made for future leagues who just sits in 8 mod T10's with packsize/titanic scarabs and I always have plenty of gold. I don't think people should write off that GGG could have improved the gold supply this league. The good activities are fine its the bad ones that needed tweaking. |
|
But this is the same for most activities. I am running Delirium and some maps are just not made for it. Would be great if all of them are compatible but this is not the case

I'm not doing anything crazy side content wise. I just run about 2-3 maps a day to avoid burn out.
I don't have a large amount of time to sit down and dedicate hours and hours to grinding gold. Just feels like everything a bit too expensive. I'm doing T16 maps so I would think I'd be doing fine. Just doesn't feel like I am doing fine, feels like everythings constantly out of stock. I've seen people saying they are drowning in gold, I don't really know how. Maybe they are the type of people that trash out a half dozen T17 maps in under 20 minutes or something? |

No map layout is as shit for delirium as gold income is for some content types, for that comparison to work you'd have to be talking about synthesis league where you could step into your map fragment and immediately get zoned out by the blue garbage :p
Some variance in methods is fine but I suspect you aren't really appreciating how bad some actually are and while that is normal for a league mechanic. League mechanics also tend to have binary scaling for individual areas in that an area has an event, and that event has scaling for packsize/quant/rarity so that juicier maps produce juicier results. What it doesn't have is scaling for the number of events which is what this league effectively has, if Harvest had scaling like this league for example T17s would have 4-5 groves per map or 12 plots as well as the extra packsize/quant for seed tiers. This is why gold is absolutely trivial for some content paths and basically non existent for others. I made more gold doing optimised (semi) T4s than alch & go destructive play T16s you can't say that is normal for league output. Last edited by Draegnarrr on Aug 31, 2024, 4:47:39 PM

" Well, to be fair here, I can't really think of a single league mechanic that you could really interact/progress with running 2-3 maps a day. But yeah, I can see the problem. We've had A LOT of discussion about gold in our guild, and every discussion comes down to "how much do you play?" (and HOW you play). If you play 2-3+ hours a day, gold isn't an issue. If you play less than that, you don't really get to experience the beauty of the league, unfortunately. And "how" you play is also important. You earn more gold the more maps you run when you're actually playing - but that is true for all league mechanics. Quantity is always king in PoE. To me, gold hasn't been an issue at all, and I have never "farmed gold" - I just map and have fun, and gold just passively heaps up - at least enough for me to progress and run my town, sailors, disenchanters and runners. Sometimes, just sometimes, you should really consider adapting to the world, instead of demanding that the world adapts to you. Last edited by Phrazz on Aug 31, 2024, 6:40:01 PM

I mean, I've completed almost all the Atlas. I am missing only 3 unique maps. I feel like I've been "Experiencing" the league well enough. I have the Eater of Worlds and Searing Exarch down.
And I'm interacting with the town doing my best to get it upgraded, I'm just not really sure what part of the "League" I am missing out on for not dedicating more time to the game. I have some days that I do more, but I am not the kind of person to remake characters over and over again to try every new thing. If I die a few times and end up losing all my day's progress in XP, I tend to just log off to try to not get overly frustrated. But I'm at the point where it takes me like.. 54,000 gold to just afford a single upgrade, and getting that much gold just feels like a hassle, unless I specifically ignore my town and let it sit around and do nothing. I have three Atlas Passives First one focuses on Expedition and Betrayal The second one is Harvest and just stuff like strongboxes. Third ones Ritual, Shrines, Scarabs and Strongboxes with everything else turned off. I'm trying to focus, becasue I'm told Shrines and strongboxes help with gold gain due to how they spawn extra monsters of blue or rare quality. Which it does seem to help, but not to a massive degree. Last edited by Nyariatheshaman on Aug 31, 2024, 8:11:40 PM

" There are specific cheap strats on Youtube to farm gold. 8 mod maps are the new alch and go.

Yes, that's why I have an entire atlas dedicated to shrines and strongboxes. I am attempting to follow suggestions people have put out, but it does not have the same output for me that other people seem to be getting.
Probably because I can't clear T16 maps in under a minute like some people seem to effortlessly be able to do. |
