Will click to move see benefits from wasd in poe2?
With poe2 supporting wasd movement, it seems to be a given that more skills and gameplay encounters will be designed to utilize this extra freedom. It's a major shift I'm excited to see in action.
However, I have been unable to find any mention of the question of whether some of these benefits will transfer to mouse and keyboard, if at a lesser capacity? Of course, I don't expect the experiences to be the exact same, but I'm dying to know whether GGG is opposed to the idea of having an option where actions do not cancel queued movement? Or are such changes implicit given the systems being overhauled? If the answer to both of these questions is 'no', then I would like to suggest its consideration. There will likely be no difference for skills but mouse movement will be more accurate and precise vs wsad movement.
Flames and madness. I'm so glad I didn't miss the fun.

I don't see how they could improve mouse control much.
WASD + Mouse is just a superior control scheme. I've played a few isometric games that use it and mouse only doesn't come close. You can run towards a position do a split second 180 on the mouse, reflect a hit from behind then another 180 and gap close your target without ever changing your vector. If you're used to it. It's simply better. "Never trust floating women." -Officer Kirac

" This. When GGG starts balancing pinnacle boss bullet hell mechanics around WASD, mouse-move players are gonna have a bad time. |

I certainly don't disagree that WASD is superior to mouse only movement in many ways, but there are tradeoffs nonetheless.
One is that unless all of your skills/actions fit onto the inputs available on your mouse as well as whatever your thumb and pinky can reach, you need to shift a finger responsible for movement to a different key. As movement with wasd only occurs when a finger is held down, this is not a completely negligible impact. Whether mouse movement is cheaper than additional key inputs is of course down to personal preference, even if mine is somewhat unusual. We may of course find that there are not enough skills being used on a character frequently enough for this to be an issue. We simply don't know, but given the high variance in what kinds of characters you can make, I don't think all cases can be ruled out. I am sure the vast majority of players will be fine with WASD. Even I will likely use it, depending on how it feels with certain builds. I was merely hoping that some tweaks to input queuing would be cheap enough in development hours to warrant some consideration. If not, whatever. |

WASD is obviously the better choice in PoE 2, but i would pick PoE 1 controls if that option ever became available.
PoE 1 click to move (my favorite) > WASD poe2 > click to move poe2 "always attack without moving" in poe 2 it finishes your move command then starts attacking in place. If you wanna stop mid movement, first you have to enable some other "attack in place stops movement", then hold shift to stop. Casting in place wont stop your move command and your char just floats on past straight into death. I tried click to move and wasd on poe 2, both feel bad compared to the goated, clean, simple poe 1 controls. |

" This for me is the biggest dealbreaker: poe 2 click to move is just not up to par with poe 1 click to move system. It feels pretty bad and is exacerbated because of the boss mechanics being tuned to controller/WASD and the dodgeroll mechanic. I recreated a lvl 1 char in poe 1 and the click to move system works like a charm. It is strange none of the closed beta participants noticed this. Then again when GGG holds couch co-op events with streamers playing with controllers, I should have seen the writing on the wall. Heart of Purity

" Oh sweet summer child. I've already made many suggestions for improvements. Personally I find the WASD implementation to be complete trash with LOTS of room for improvement. But if you've never played this style of game controls before, I can understand how this might feel all fresh and new to you. |

Yeah its a lil crazy that everyone said click to move was fine, or worked great.
I spent HOURS trying to make it work like the original. They hid some of the settings in new places, and after lots of effort it still feels floaty and unresponsive. |
