Console blast from past XP loss on death in maps

Is this a bug for this week long trial?

Ps console player. Was at ~50% to level 77 where I was swarmed by idk, maybe 30 enemies and died instantly. And lost my entire XP level????? Huh? I figure 10% loss in maps, but trial says 5% on death, so didn't care, but why lose an entire bars worth of XP on death in maps!?!?

November 2023 Events

Each of these events say "You lose 5x experience upon death".

The base loss is 5% after finishing act 5, and 10% after finishing act 10. Since you're in the event and cleared act 10, you lose up to 50% of the experience required for the next level upon death.
