Sanctum enables one way portals after defeating Lycia

After defeating Lycia's second form, my carry (instance owner) opened a town portal out of muscle memory and left the sanctum. Now she cannot rejoin the instance and the reward chest with 2 Divines is locked. Why is this possible. Why is there no warning prompt like when you open a portal in the labyrinth?

Did it last league, did it again just now.. kill lycia, open portal to leave map... realize I lost my rewards.
