A bit of positivity for the forum on a nice Monday morning

So I haven't played this in years and just started in the Ancestor league a couple days ago. This morning, as I was running through the Act 8 town, I get a random whisper from someone, asking what body armor I am using. So of course I'm thinking to myself, "Hmm, I wonder what kind of scam this is." Purely out of curiosity I oblige and link it anyway. What's the worst that could happen, right? A random stranger will make fun of me for being a newb?

Well, almost right away I get an invite to a group and a trade request. So I'm thinking, "Yep, here comes the scam." But to my surprise this person just gives me a 6L armor and about 200 chromatics. And accepts. As I sit there stunned, not sure what to make of it, he sends me another whisper saying that he couldn't sell it for a while and so might as well give it to someone that will actually need it. And then apologized that it's just a mediocre 6L chest and not something really high-end, suggesting that I use the crafting bench to add some life or resists to it.

Now, I don't know if this sort of thing happens a lot these days. And maybe 6L isn't as big of a deal now as it used to be. But still, this person could have just vendored it but instead took the trouble to look around for someone of appropriate level and give them something that would be a big upgrade. Anyway, with all the negativity on this forum I figured I'd share what I thought was a really nice story and a pleasant welcome to the league/game for a newbie.

I'll add a story here that I was too lazy to make a dedicated thread on.

I pulled a double veiled two stone ring out of a Ritual earlier in the league. It had 2x T1 affixes. I unveiled both and got some pretty synergistic mods. At this point I decided it was good enough to bench craft and exalt slam and ended up with a pretty good piece. I looked it up on trade site but had a hard time finding a good comparison for it given the double veiled circumstances.

Put it up for a divine and got 5 whispers pretty fast. Relisted it for 2 divines and got pretty much the same thing.

So I took a minute to whisper some of the players back. "alright mate, idk what this is worth and I'm getting a lot of whispers, can you tell me what you'd be willing to pay for it?"

Two of them responded. One said it was worth about 4 or 5 divines, but that he's trying to 'snipe' one for 2, 2.5 div max. The second said it was worth about 4.5 divines and he'd be happy to pay 4.5 divines. They were both honest with me, and I was happy to sell it to the latter guy for 3.5 div. Honesty always pays off as far as I'm concerned.

Yesterday, I wanted to buy a support gem for 18 chaos, and the guy told me he was in the ancestor mechanic. I replied that I can wait, and after about 15 minutes, we traded, I paid him, then he reopened the trade window and retunred my 18 chaos :O

I thanked him a lot and he just said to enjoy <3 Pretty great community~

yeah, luckily there are some good people in an often toxic environment.
