Penetration and exposure
I have a question :
-Enemy has 75% resistance, cold for example -I have 20% exposure and 25% cold penetration Will the enemy have 30% resistance against my hits? Last bumped on Dec 16, 2024, 8:15:11 PM

The enemy will have 30% effective resistance against your hits. But its current resistance will be 55%.

Hi ItIsMeRose,
I believe that exposure has a default value of -20% (resistance). So when a node, for example, adds 30% increase exposure, then that's 30% of the -20%, which will be like an extra -5%, so total exposure is -26%. In this example, there are nodes before reaching the 30% increase exposure effect (the Overexposure) node, which are like 10% increase exposure effect. I believe that, since it states that exposure does not stack, then its possible the smaller exposure node does nothing to the larger node. However, if it did add, then the 30% + 10% = 40% exposure, and if that's the case, then that would only be like 28% increase exposure effect. To me, the skill points needed to to even reach this particular node, called Overexposure on the passive tree, doesn't seem to be worth it, but of course that's just my opinion and only compared to my current build. Math (-.20 x (1 + 30/100)) And if including the other 10%, then its: (-.20 x (1 + 40/100)) Penetration does stack with exposure and with itself. So you can have different sources of penetration and combine (add) it to exposure. Math Example: 10% penetration + 18% penetration + 30% increase exposure will calculate like this: 10 + 18 = 28% -20% x 1.30 = 26% Total = 54% So if the enemy has 50% elemental resistance, then: 50% - 54% = -4% (So the enemy will take 4% increased elemental damage, depending on the type of element you are using) Penetration does not lower the enemy's resistance, but it factors it into your damage on "hit". So the moment you hit the enemy, penetration is factored into that hit. Exposure, on the other hand, requires a trigger or something to apply it to the enemy first, such as a support gem. So penetration is automatic on your hits, while exposure has to be applied before it takes effect, but it does lower the enemy's resistance. Take this into consideration if wanting to play in a team, as penetration will only benefit you, but exposure will apply to the enemy themselves, which the team will benefit from. Also, both penetration and exposure does not affect ailments, such as shock. I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any further questions! |
