animate guardian problem

Can someone explain me how equip weapon with it using controller xbox one?

I've never actually used an Animate Guardian, but my understanding is that, no matter what platform you're on, you have to have the Guardian summoned and then drop the item you want it to equip on the ground. Meaning you have to be in a zone where you can drop things (i.e. not town or hideout).

Maybe someone who actually plays with AG can correct me if I'm wrong.

EDIT: The wiki says you then need to target the item with the AG skill after dropping it.
