Steam deck trackpad as mouse not working consistently in waypoint menu

I have recommended controller scheme on my steam deck.
I set outer ring of left joystick to trigger withering step just like I have it as left mouse click on my pc. Because of this, I cannot use left joystick to move around in waypoint selection screen. It keeps pressing one of 'abxy' when I move left joystick to outer ring.
That's why I tried using right track pad as mouse to select waypoint to travel to.
But when I click on an area to 'move to area' it will not click.
Oddly when I click on hideout button or menagerie on the right side, it works.
This inconsistency seems unintended and might be a bug.

I have not tested this on my PC with controller+mouse but I'd assume it'd have the same issue.
