Heist quest items disappearing when used with controller

Attempted to play some heist with the new controller option, when I had to put poison through the duct on a Karst quest heist, it did nothing when I pressed A, but it did make my character face the vent. Then I open my bags, and I see that the poison Karst gave me is no longer in my bags, but quest did not progress, alarm did not trigger.
