POE 2 on old-gen?

Assuming Path of Exile 2 will actually launch on consoles, if POE doesn't shut down due to low player count, due to conversion issues, or gameplay issues in general (movement skill bug still here since I started playing back in legion)

Do you think they will launch it on the old gen, or just PS5/Series X?
Personally I hope for a new gen only release, but doubt it due to sharing same end game and 'not splitting the playerbase'.

Also consider that the old gen will be about 10 years old when POE2 drops

The extra power of new gen is imo much needed considering the new stuff like 'reading the battliefield etc.'

I think that they will hype it up and not say anything about POE2 on consoles no matter how much people ask about it.

And then after they release POE2 supporter packs and have a nice sale or two, we'll spot one line at the bottom of the patch announcement that says "POE2 is PC only."
I'd be surprised if we get any more updates at all at this point.

Then I suggest: before turning the servers/game itself off, they should implement an offline mode, which would mean SSF (kinda is right now anyways, if trade isn't something you want to do for a day while searching a specific mod), but it could solve the movement skill desync (cuz no more synching necessary) and we could expierience (maybe) a more consistent game.

Wishful thinking: Also getting the ability to enable/better access to league mechanics.

It is unlikely to have this game offline due to the nature of mechanic, unless remake..lol
I full on hope poe 2 is next gen only...
Not to discriminate against people with old gen, but realistically the game is really starting to be held back catering to last gen...

Held back by 'catering' to last gen? Really? The current gen console is only a year old, and availability is still extremely limited. POE is not at all 'catering' to last gen consoles, since most console players have been unable to buy the new ones yet. And we've seen that GGG is perfectly capable of modifying the console version to deal with memory issues (remember the Betrayal change?). There is no technical reason to not have different versions for each console generation - only operational reasons, like increased cost of maintenance, support, etc.

It would only make sense to drop support for last gen if the new consoles were readily available so everyone who wants one could get one. I'm sure GGG has statistics on the platform distribution of the players and will make good decisions based on that.

As for POE 2, that is at a minimum 2 years out. I wouldn't be suprised if it is not finished before 2025. Perhaps by that time more console players have managed to get the current gen console.

Finally, it might not even be an issue for POE 2: the gameplay seems to be slowed down, there are fewer enemies, etc. All this means less resources required to run the game. On the other hand, the improved texture quality and models are increasing the resources required.

I am curious about the technical constraints POE 2 is being developed under. Things like: what is the target memory usage? How many CPU threads/cores are expected? How about the read speed of hard drives? Or network latency? All these constraints will ultimately result in a 'minimum system requirements' document. What will it be? Who knows! But the current POE version is definitely not 'catering to' or 'held back by' last gen consoles.
I don't think you understand that PoE on PC doesn't even run that great unless you have a decent computer that's like 2-4x better than Xbox one and 5x better than ps4...

You can pretend all you want that the game isn't being held back, but every time a league launches last gens performance goes down.
The more assets added make the game take longer to load etc...

What do you thinks going to happen when you have double the classes, 2 stories on top of another year's worth of content(at least) added to the game.

You're delusional if you don't think last gen is holding the game back.

Also the beta for poe hasn't been delayed yet which was slated for 2022. So the earliest we could see poe 2 would be 2023 q1(but I feel more realistically it's 2024 q1)
