[3.16] Archmage Ball Lightning Elementalist
I played this about a year ago and wanted to try again so I researched a build and created it in POE planner. Would appreciate some critiques or suggestions on how to make it better before starting out.

Spoiler
Ball Lightning with Archmage using Pledge of Hands for high DPS
Vortex on LMB to clear and slow enemies while I zoom around, and for frenzy charges from Ice Bite Frostblink for extra chill and to proc Innervate buff. Arcane Cloak and Sigil of Power for defense and buffs CWDT for Temp Chains and Lightning Golem. Debating whether Chaos Golem is more useful. Defensive layers:
Spoiler
MOM/Agnostic with large mana pool
Lots of mana regen, damage recouped as mana and mana recovery from using skills Arcane Cloak and Primal Aegis for even more damage buffer 56/17% spell/attack block during flask effect Scaled out chill effect plus some freeze and temp chains Overcapped elemental resistances, poison immune, decent move speed 5k Evasion Gear:

Pledge of Hands
Cloak of Defiance Atziri's Foible (these all seem to be BIS) Dance of the Offered - This saves me four points for pathing to The Agnostic and usually gives onslaught, opening up a flask spot. Maybe I could consider some influenced boots on a higher budget. Frostferno - Good mana regen, evasion, and dps for votex. Alternatively I could use an elder helmet with 15% increased mana and flat mana for another 550 unreserved mana or so. Or a shaper helmet with flat mana and 70% mana regen. Call of the Brotherhood I did not add quality because I am taking Snowstorm in a cluster jewel. The main benefit of this ring is so that I can use Trinity support, but I could swap that out for Lightning Pen and get an influenced cerulean ring with flat mana and maybe curse on hit. Dream Fragments - Very cheap and I'm overcapped on cold res so I can get a corrupted one for poison immunity. Maybe an expensive ring would be somewhat better. Gloves and Belt - just looking for Flat mana, life, chaos res, and EV. I could consider a Shaper belt for CDR. I could also try to get more fire res since I'm relying on Dying Sun to stay at 95%+ res. Jewels:
Spoiler
Watcher's Eye - Mana buffs with Clarity
Blue Nightmare - power charges so I crit enough for EO, added chaos damage, and 13% spell block. Healthy Mind - More mana Cobalt jewels - More mana, life, and filling out other stats Cluster Jewel nodes - Corrosive Elements for exposures, Snowstorm for DPS, Overshock to scale shock effect, Inspired Oppression for mana regen Passive Tree
Spoiler
Witch area for the lightning masteries and cluster jewel, Scion area for mana nodes and jewel slots, templar area to fill out some stats.
Anointment - I took Mind Drinker for the mana gained on kill, which seems amazing for mapping. Ascendancy - I'm not scaling golems or ignite, so the only other option I passed on is Heart of Destruction. Maybe this would be better against bosses than Shaper of Winter but it seems a bit underwhelming. Flasks
Spoiler
Dying Sun - Extra projectiles and fire mitigation.
Rumi's Concoction - Not sure how this would compare with a Jade flask Quicksilver Quartz Amethyst Uniques I considered but passed on:
Spoiler
Aylardex - just seems worse than Atziri's foible.
Omeyocan - lose 7% of mana per second seems like a bad idea Pyroshock Clasp - No flat mana, also I only have 25% ignite with Vortex and 0% with Ball Lightning. Asenath's Gentle Touch - This might be a good upgrade later on, if I can get enough flat dex from the cobalt/cluster jewels and take the +30 node. Cinderswallow Urn - 3% mana on kill seems great, but I don't ignite most enemies and I already get onslaught from the boots. Questions I have about improving this build 1. Can/should I get more mana or life? The best ways I can think of are an Elder helmet and Cerulean rings with flat mana. 2. There are also some passive nodes on the tree I could prioritize more highly. I'm wondering if Storm Weaver or Ash Frost, and Storm are expendable. 3. I'm not sure if there is an ideal ratio of mana to life, or how low of a life total I can get away with if I keep scaling mana. 4. Pantheon - would normally lean toward Arakaliy but Solaris might be better if I'm poison immune 5. Is there a good rule of thumb for how much mana regen I need? Seems like I have about 1200 per second, or just under five seconds for full regen. Is that enough? Is it worth using a mana flask? 5a. Along a similar vein, by my count each cast of Ball Lightning costs about 22.5% of my maximum mana. This seems like a pretty good percentage, which is why I didn't take the Dreamer or Forethought nodes in the Scion area. But I'm not sure how it will feel in practice. Should I consider either of those nodes? Any tips would be appreciated. Last edited by Legendary_Wealth#0220 on Nov 26, 2021, 2:49:43 AM Last bumped on Nov 26, 2021, 12:13:13 AM
