Noob witch lvl34 looking for help

Hi all!

Noob exile here, level 34 witch, with 7/8 passive skill points and 4 refund points. I haven't spent any points in the last few days because honestly, I have no idea where to go next in the skill tree, what to specialise in, etc.

As of today I use OoS to activate EE + flammability for debuffs and fire wall as my main skill. Fire skeletons minions to "support" damage.

I'm quite lost and would like to know which way to go.

Thanks in advance !!!

Welcome Exile..!!

I'm pretty new myself and from the sounds / look of it you are, but may I be so bold a to suggest finding a build guide to follow so you get the basics and mechanics down. Not sure if you're playing on PC or console and I play on both so IMO they are definitely builds that 'work' better on console.

Being lvl 34 I wouldn't think you have invested a lot of time so you could easily start another character. I've enjoyed my journey so far but if it wasn't for the likes of the build authors I'm about to list I would have given up ages ago (in fact I did the first time I tried the game a couple of years ago).

Any who, here's a couple of guides that are great as they have a complete levelling section in the build which is great hand-holding for us newbies.

Now before I get slammed this isn't a complete list there are tons of fun builds out there, I simply choose these as they are far more newbie friendly. I've played these and had a ball plus picked up some great info and tips along the way.

Kay's Summoner (and more), fantastic guide, build and more and a great levelling guide, good video guides as well - https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2181275

Enki's Arc Witch Guide, another great guide and fun build - https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1147951

And last but not least is

ShakCentral's Vortex, again good guide, and levelling section - https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2661120

Enjoy Exile for life is fleeting...
I'm also brand new, this subforum seems to be more about sharing specific builds rather than general discussion, but figure I'll ask a more vague question and see what happens. Have simply been experimenting so far, trying out different classes, got one to the end of act 3 to unlock SSF, and that's about it. Plan to learn more in the next week or so, start trying to play properly with the new season for 3.15.

Anyway, of my experimenting, the one I've just found that seems a whole lot of fun and is currently melting faces and low-level ultimatum challenges (which I was failing badly at on other classes) is for my Witch to have found a B-B-B item, and I'm using summon raging spirit, supported by infernal legion/summon phantasm. Plus some zombies for additional support, though they mostly just cheer on the all-conquering flaming skulls right now. :D

Seems to me that the skulls get the extra damage of infernal legion without the downside of it, and they reliably spawn a max stack of phantasms. I think I've found my initial class for the league startup, and my first build idea to try and do some theorycrafting and forward planning on, but with the tooltip not showing how much damage the skulls actually do, I have no clue how they'll scale at higher levels. Am I in for a nasty surprise later? Any other bright ideas to go with them? I currently have no defensive abilities beyond blinking away if overwhelmed, and I'm still in act 1, so very early, and don't know what quest rewards might show up, I simply pick what looks good from what's offered.

I won't do this. I don't mind reading up a bit on how basic mechanics work, also don't mind having a look at some particular build guides for ideas, but I'd much rather figure stuff out for myself, at least until I feel like I'm capable of understanding the rationale behind someone's specific choices in a guide rather than just aiming for something because guide says to aim for it.
