Shaper of Flames with Firestorm?

Easy Question - Does Shaper of Flames work with firestorm? Does the spell cast hitting count as a hit or do you have to have a melee hit? I feel like the spell hitting should count but sometimes the simple things in one of my favorite games can be difficult. Im likely overthinking this but imm making a build so want to see what people think :)

Seems like all the big brains in my chat advised that spells DO have to hit to do damage which is what i thought. Feel free to flame me for this post LOLOL
